I moved (as a snow bird) to East Naples a few years ago and ever since I “never felt so young or so poor”

Joe, I just sent a Canon R off to be converted to 720nm IR so I am very interested in your post processing technique. These shots are really great and I hope I can do something similar.

Hi,… I went full RF after I bought my R5. I had a full complement of EF L lenses and I used them for a while with the adapter. They were fine, but I wanted te extra control that comes with the RF lenses, as welll as the lighter weight. I sold all of my EF lenses at what I would call excellent prices and I bought: RF 50mm f1.2, RF 70-200, the RF 100- 500 and the RF 800 f111, I recently bought the RF 50 f1.8 and the RF 35 f1.8 to set the R5 for street photos. The pics are very sharp and the auto focus is very fast. BUT not so much that I would have done this if I didn’t have all of the EF glass to sell.

I just returned from a fabulous cruise to Alaska with my entire family - we celebrated our 80th birthdays and 58th wedding anniversary. It really was a great time and I will have a number of photos to share with the Hogs. But first I have to show what i believe - after seeing it first hand - is a shocking picture of what we are doing to this wonderful planet and how I really worry about the climate that we are leaving our grand children.

This was my second trip to Alaska and we were fortunate to see the Mendenhall Glacier on both cruises and while not exactly from the same perspective, pretty close. So the two attached photos show the front edge of the glacier as seen in September 2005 and as seen last week August 2023. in 2005 the leading edge was a solid mass as seen by the dirt lines running across the edge. Back from the water line the glacier was quite hilly but never the less a solid continuous "slab of ice" . I later flew over it in a sea plane but did not take any pictures - Too busy holding on.

Today the glacier is formed by chunks of ice clearly indicating that the break up occurs well back from the water's edge Today the Glacier is not a slab of ice moving toward the water, but rather a flow of chunks heading toward the water.

Please don't judge the photos for the photographic quality but rather for what they show about our environment and rapidity the of change and impact. Last week's view was at about 7AM and I was shooting through quite a bit of morning haze and fog so the editing was a bit more severe than what i like

I just ordered the Q3. My rationale was that the 60 mps and the 90mm crop will render this camera useful in more than Street. At my advanced age I am lightening my load every where that I can. Also. Inn this strata of price (6000K) the saving to go with the Q2 is not all that much.

Excellent shot Some insight would be appreciated. Clearly you did not use zone focusing as there is very nice DOF here. The background is out of focus and the subject is crystal clear. That is generally not the case with zone focusing street photography where the objective is to shoot quickly and not diddle with the camera while the picture changes. I tune in every day to see what you have posted and I am always impressed with your body of work. Thanks fore sharing with us.

I use PhotoMechanic. I like that it allows me to ingest the culled images to two drives where they will reside according to my file naming process. Then I import the culled images into Lightroom classic. The PhotoMechanic process is very fast so I know that I will do it at the end of search day and I can do the Lightroom import later.

I had a second home in Bartlett several years ago and the photo ops are everywhere. Don’t forget
Diana’s bath right off trhe main road and go to Jackson just a few miles away where the river comes right into town and the water falls are all over the place. Finally, drive out toward the Wildcat Sky area and have the river on your left all the way with several great photo opportunities. Of course, the negative is trhat this is one of the most popular areas in New England and the crowds will be great so you will havre to deal with people all around blocking your shots. Good luck, have fun.

Excellent set. I especially like the first shot where you capture the sun silhouetting the trees with crisp white edges around black shapes at the same time as the the sun is setting and creating that dramatic red cloud bank. Thanks for sharing.

I sold all the Pro lenses through LEH right after a member here committed to buying this and then strung me out for over two weeks before he reneged on his commitment. So now no lenses anc if it doesn’t sell I will be back in the Olympus business and have to buy lenses.
