Forgive me if this subject has been covered before. I have been using Snapbridge for GPS tracking with my phone but I would like to move away from Snapbridge to achieve this. Do any of you Hoggers have experience with a hot shoe or other type mount GPS unit you would recommend for a Nikon D850? I'm sure some of you may think Snapbridge is the best thing since sliced bread but I'm finding it's not for me. Thanks in advance.

I don't know if I will ever go mirrorless. I'm heavily invested in Nikon DSLRs and they continue to fill all my needs. Seems like all the herd members jump on board anything new and "exciting". I'm more interested in tried and true and functional. Not interested in FLASHBANG OH HOW COOL BOY I'M GOING THERE SINCE ALL THE OTHER COOL PEOPLE ARE ALREADY THERE AND I JUST DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE BACK HERE WITH ALL THE WANNABES!
Did I get carried away??

I took full advantage of the mirrorless hop and bought a D850 and invested in glass. I'm 67 and unless there is events I'm not counting on, I know no one does, they all should last longer than me. I'm kinda glad mirrorless has become the thing.

If I had known, and maybe I should have, this post would turn into a mirrorless vs mirrored I wouldn't have posted it. Shoot what you want guys, I don't care.

When I bought my D850 in 2018 (and my second one last year), it was without one bit of concern for the video capabilities of the camera. When I shoot video (which goes back 50 years), I use a video camera. And on the rare occasion that I do use my D850 (or D810 or D500 or D300s) to shoot a video clip, I switch to manual focus. And I avoid manic, distracting panning and zooming. So any of those cameras will work just fine.

Bill Burkholder has described a case in which it is beneficial to have one camera that does stills and video well. He doesn't use a D850, and that's fine. But there are many reasons why the Lumix system that he so successfully uses won't really work for me. But my D850 and D500 have proven to be perfect. And I will continue to occasionally mention them to folks who seem to do similar things to what I do.

It is tiring to hear would-be authorian photo dictators try to campaign for a single solution for all problems or to cast aspersions on solutions others have found.

I don't shoot videos and seldom use live view, I like using the viewfinder when possible. In fact if the 850 didn't shoot video at all, I could care less.

Excellent choices all around!! You will love them. Including the 200~500!! Best kept secret in Nikon's Line up! They should charge twice as much for it...but don't tell them that!!

I paid 575 bucks for the 200-500 and it doesn't have a spot on it! The guy was asking for 575 and I did not bicker with him. I already had the Tamron 150-600 G2 but the 200-500 is a better lens in my opinion. He has the Z6 or Z6II, I can't remember which, and wasn't satisfied with the lens and adapter setup.

Please do not tell my wife. What she doesn’t know won’t hurt her and the idea of 45 megapixels is very appealing.

The size of the files is a little of a downside but updating or getting a new computer is something I need to do anyway. I have been limited to 16 gig of ram and a processor that is too slow to run some programs efficiently. I have held off buying Topaz for that reason. That will be the next expense of any significant amount.

My wife is encouraging me to buy a mirrorless for an upcoming trip. She thinks lighter will be better. I haven’t disavowed the weight difference as it is not that much lighter. She is usually ambivalent about my purchases, rarely encourages but never complains. I wish I’d listened to her encouragement when we visited the Gibson guitar factory in Nashville.

I believe if my wife would have encouraged me to buy a new Gibson, and I had the funds available, I would have jumped on that like a duck on a June bug!

Maybe one day I'll go mirrorless if I get bad GAS, live long enough, or some unforeseeable event causes me to. I know it's the future but I have really gotten some good deals on some great gear in the last few months and for that I've got to say thanks to some of you who have gone mirrorless. I made the move to full frame with a used D850, bought used Nikkor lenses: 14-24mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm, all f2.8s, and a Nikkor 200-500mm. Camera and lenses all in excellent to like new condition and US models as well. The lens at about 1/2 price of new or even less.
Maybe I'll switch to mirrorless when the next big development takes place but for now I'm happy and believe I will be for the foreseeable future. I hope it doesn't get to the point Tums doesn't work anymore.

Sorry to contradict you but the Canon Pixma Pro 200 uses dye ink. It is the ImagePROGRAF Pro 300 which uses pigment. I have the latter and would recommend it although it does use small cartridges. Those in the 1000 are much bigger. I actually refill using OctoInkjet inks in the UK.

I noticed the cartridges for the 1000 are a whopping 80ml. That is a bit of a plus for me.

Canon pro 200 excellent
Epson 8550 also very good choice

You should follow Jose Rodriguiz you tube series . All the info you need .

I will have to look into Jose's channel. I am considering the pro 200 if I decide to go to a cartridge ink.

I have used the Canon Pixma Pro 10 and after it gave me many years of excellent service I got the Canon ProGraf 300 and it is fantastic. It uses pigment inks and prints up to 13x19. It can also print a panorama print up to 39x13. Red River actually sells that size paper. I highly recommend it.

Thank you. I will check it out.

Yeah, the 8550 problem does bother me.

No, I have the P800 which has been replaced by the P900. I will get a P900 at some point because it adds a separate channel for Matte Black, avoiding the constant switching along with needless cost, ink waste and $$. Best of luck.

Thanks, I'm still bothered by the things I've read about the 8550 but it is still on my list. I'm leaning toward the P-900, the Canon Pro-1000, and the 8550 at the moment.
