UV filters are unnecessary for digital cameras. If you want protection for the front lens element, then buy a good clear filter. I know that canon and Nikon make them and they’re excellent.

What else? Tell the community the details of which specific flash model and cable are involved when posting a technical problem.

The flash cable is a vello off-camera ttl cable for Nikon and the flash is a flashpoint(Godox) zoom li-ion r2 ttl flash for Nikon

I recently purchased a flash cable for my Nikon D750 but I can’t get it to work. Other than firmly connecting it to the flash and camera hot shoe and locking it down is there something else that I need to do?

My laptop is about 8 years old now and LR crashed on it and I lost a lot of photos. Now is the time for a new system. I'm open to a desktop or a laptop with a monitor and keyboard to attach. I'd like capabilities of photo and video editing. I'm a PC user and don't need to break the bank for a system as I'm a hobbyist only. Travel photos, sunsets and grandchildren are my focus. I searched the topic and everything seemed pretty old. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

What does “break the bank” mean? Can you give us a $ budget so we can make a good recommendation?

The Tamron lens is a great bargain. I've never seen an image from the lens (Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2) that wasn't excellent.

I own this lens for my Nikon D750 and it’s awesome.

Don’t skimp in purchasing a tripod. If you’re looking to get one, save up and budget for $800+ to spend on quality legs and ball head combo. As others have said, visit your local camera shop to see which setup is best for you.

What do you mean by reasonably priced as possible? What is your budget? Without knowing that it’s hard to make recommendations.

Why not use a neutral clear filter instead? Then you have protection without image degradation.

I have a 24x36 canvas taken with my old d40. It looks great.

Are there any camera stores in their area? I would suggest she and her husband go there and have her try different camera models to see what she’s most comfortable with before purchasing.

UV filters are unnecessary for digital cameras. If you’re buying a filter just to protect the front element, then get a neutral clear one.

If you’re not comfortable doing it then politely decline and thank them for asking you.

I will have enough money within the next month to get a higher end mirrorless. My dilemma is that my retirement budget isn't going to allow me to get everything I would like. It looks like I could opt for a Z9 and use my Nikon legacy glass or go for the Z7ii and have enough for a couple of Z lenses. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

You don’t provide us enough information for anyone to make an informed recommendation. What do you shoot? What’s your total budget? Do you shoot high speed action?

I have a D500 and use a Tamron 150-600 lens. What tripod would you recommend? Needs to be lightweight but sturdy, also budget friendly? Also - recommend ballhead, gimbal or whatever you think is best. Preferably a portable tripod to fit in backpack…but doesn’t need to be.

Your requirements are fictional. Lightweight is not going to be sturdy period. What does budget friendly mean? With your setup you’re going to need carbon fiber legs and heavy duty (weight) in order for it to be stable. Unless you buy used, plan on spending $1,000+ for a solid leg/ ball head setup.
