I would love to have it as a walk around lens. $300.00 is more than fair. I will pay shipping. We could coordinate. Please email me at: john.j3imaging@gmail.com

This is exactly why I use a mail/package delivery service. I don’t want anything valuable left sitting outside my door. I don’t want sensitive mail just sitting in my mailbox. A few weeks ago, I ordered a tripod from Sirui. It was miss delivered by FedEx (common for the contract FedEx delivery in our area). The camera in PakMain clearly indicated no delivery of my package. FedEx argued that GPS tracking indicated a good delivery and they made no effort to resolve the issue. The manager at PakMail didn’t accept the explanation. After staying on FedEx for two weeks, the driver discovered the miss delivery had been sitting at the business next door. No idea why someone at that business didn’t notice the miss delivery, but no one did. Sirui didn’t want to do anything initially because they received documentation of a good delivery from FedEx. Later that changed when the PakMail manager spoke with them stating video indicated no FedEx delivery. It is worth what I pay for the service annually.

We need a little more info such as aperture, shutter speed, lens (focal length), etc. Just looking, the front of the photo (middle of flower) is in focus and is sharp. The back of the photo gets soft. I suspect a depth of field issue. A longer focal length and wide open aperture can result in a very narrow depth of field.

There are constantly changing consumer values continuously affecting the market place. For comparison, I look to Bose, which is a company that was built on making top quality hifi speakers and PA speakers, etc. Their flagship speaker was the Bose 901. Today, the company is alive and well, but they no longer make that speaker or one similar. As consumers no longer desire to purchase high fidelity component systems as they used to, they currently focus manufacturing computer speakers, compact surround sound systems, Bluetooth speakers, smaller speakers, headphones, earbuds, etc. The company changed as consumer values changed. Today’s consumer is far more concerned about convenience than quality. I mean, how many houses do you walk into today where the stereo system is the focal point of the entertainment setup? It used to be not that long ago.

Again, now shift to photography…

Did professional photographers ever use Polaroid consumer cameras, Kodak Instamatics and Pocket Instamatics, disposable cameras, etc. in the 1960s and 70s? The transition from film cameras to the digital age of photography was very telling. I for one had a Canon AE-1 that I loved. As a young teacher during that time period, I could not delve into replacing everything with digital. For many years, I bought point and shoot style digital cameras and was happy with them as cumbersome as managing files was initially with floppy disk, etc. One morning, I woke up and thought, I want to explore photography with better equipment again. I bought a Canon T6-S which led to a 6DMKII, to a 5DMKIV, then into the new mirrorless cameras. Without really trying, I started getting calls to do professional work although I don’t consider myself a professional because teaching is still my main source of income. My photography work supports my G.A.S. weakness I have. I also have a nice iPhone; however, I have never once sold a photo taken with it nor have I ever used it on a photo shoot other than to take a selfie with my clients to post on Instagram or Facebook.

For consumers, I suspect cell phone photos are fine and will continue to be. It goes back to the statement that convenience is more important to the average consumers today than quality is. However, there will likely always be those who want Rebels, and other cameras in those lines. Maybe fewer, but that market will exist for the entry level hobbyist. I really don’t expect you will ever see a true professional photographer shooting a wedding with a smart phone. To the contrary, most of us get tired of people standing behind us or jumping in front of us to snap a picture with one. I now put it in my contract that such behavior is not allowed.

No, I don’t think cell phones will ever replace professional level cameras. Will the affect the consumer camera market? Yes, they already have and will continue to do so.

I am a high school band director and I also teach a semester long intro to photography class. I would be glad to communicate with your daughter and share ideas and information. I also have a close friend who is currently the state fine arts coordinator. Prior to accepting that position, he was an accomplished photography teacher. I would be glad to put her in touch with him as well.

I throughly enjoy and get a lot of use from my GoPros. I will often use them when I want quality photos and video but do not want to carry a camera such as when I take my grandsons to an amusement park. They are good in wet areas especially with the underwater case. I use than in my classroom a lot as well to let students video their individual performances, musical scale assignments, etc. I definitely carry one and extra batteries when hiking.

When preparing for a photo shoot, I generally like to arrive well before the client and set up and test my equipment, adjust settings, check lighting, and get an idea about white balance, etc. Often, my wife Marcia Gerrald Hillsman goes to assist with the shoot. More often than not, she is graciously the test subject. As a result, I often get some wonderful shots of her. This photo is only lightly edited with no touch-ups. Yesterday, the client saw some of my test photos and asked me if Marcia is my favorite muse! That would be a resounding yes!

You can only carry a camera into the course during the practice rounds; therefore, you are good to go. You cannot carry a cell phone, beeper, or any other such device any day. You are not allowed to carry a backpack, camera bag, etc. There should be some guidelines on your tickets. A camera vest would likely be your best option for equipment and a second camera. If you have one, I would strongly suggest a 70-200 if the day is overcast with a second camera with a wide angle lens. If not overcast and sunny, the new canon RF 24-240 mounted on your R6 would likely be all you would need. (I am not sure if a monopod is permissible or not. I would tend to doubt it.) The RF 24-240 is not a L-Series lens, but it is very sharp at all focal lengths and produces good color. You will definitely want to take two kinds of shots: golfers and landscapes. Just don’t forget extra batteries and something to clean your lens. The pollen is already flying!

Just to bring a point of perspective into this discussion…

I am not sure that quality has the same meaning today as it has previously. For many, the cell phone camera and the images it produces may be perfectly acceptable. Today, people value convenience over quality. Just look back at the development of hifi stereo, etc. In the not so distance past, people invested in multiple high quality components, they accepted the bulkiness of high quality speakers, and they valued high fidelity. As a result of changing trends and attitudes, Bose has completely changed their business model from the late 1970s and 1980s where they were producing high quality speakers. They hardly make speakers any longer, but not focus their efforts on headphones, earbuds, small Bluetooth speakers, etc. I suspect to a degree, the same is happening with photography. Fortunately, photographers and their crafts are still valued. High quality cameras and lenses are still valued and remain available. Let’s just hope in years to come that the R5 and R6 (and other good cameras) don’t fall victim to smart phone cameras in the same manner that the Bose 901 speaker has to earbuds!

You would think they would want to avoid the negative publicity. I would start posting this information with pictures in reviews including their site, FaceBook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. hash tagging them in every post. What they did is wrong and it sounds as if they are somewhat admitting to it. I bet it would only be a matter of time before you would receive a new pair of what you actually purchased, which in my mind you are totally entitled to since they sold you something different than what you ordered and paid for. They owe you if they indeed substituted a knockoff.

Personally, and nothing against anyone with a varying opinion, I would never put any battery in my Canon camera other than a Canon battery. There is just some money that I don’t want to save. I tried an aftermarket battery once, but never again. In the end, I purchased a $37.50 battery cover while also putting a lithium battery in a landfill and polluting our earth.

I am having no issues with either camera in any respect except good results other than my R5 connecting to WiFi when in a crowded WiFi environment. When I bought both cameras (at different times), I went through every single page in the settings and set them to my ways of shooting. I bought the R6 first. When I bought the R5, I duplicated the settings one to one with the R6. In my hands, both cameras are the same.

I am not experiencing the issues I continually read about others having. I will say that I think owning the EOS R, R5, and R6 gives me a perfect combination of cameras. Just as you don’t use a hammer to turn a screw or a screwdriver to drive a nail, one camera does not serve every need. The R6 is absolutely perfect in my opinion for portraiture. I have used the R5 some for portraits, but it is almost overly detailed. It is not an issue with the camera, but simply because it has a LOT OF MEGAPIXELS. When it comes to group shots and landscapes, it is exemplary. The R is between the two in megapixels and definitely has its place as well. It is not at all a camera to be overlooked when compared to the R5 and R6.

I honestly think a lot of the problems people are having with the R5 and R6 focuses upon making the transition from DSLR to mirrorless. There is a big difference. What I observe is that users are basically totally in love with their R5s and R6s or frustrated with them. For me, I think going through each page of the settings was important and crucial to even better understanding the R5 and R6. Also, the focusing systems on the DSLR cameras and the mirrorless are different and react differently. I very often switch between one shot and servo depending upon what I am shooting. I will also change focus settings depending on the shot.

If someone is looking for a more generalized camera for everyday shooting/photography, in my opinion the EOS R would be a better choice for him/her than either the R5 or R6. The R is really the perfect everyday/general shooting camera of the three.

I am convinced that there is a learning curve involved with using both cameras. In my opinion, the results are worth the efforts to navigate the curves! I find that with all three mirrorless cameras, the color straight out of the camera is so exceptional that I find myself doing very little color editing on post productions if my settings were absolutely on target when shooting. I guess I am in the category of being totally in love with all three mirrorless cameras (Although the 5DMKIV still gets a lot of work time.)!
