1. Google the TSA web sites for info on carry-on and checked batteries.
2. Experiment at home to see what your camera does.

They've done excellent work for me!
They've always done excellent work for me. They are also close to my home so I get overnight delivery. Watch for sales for lower prices.

I purchased the Sony RX10 IV in July 2017. I love it. The new RX100 VII has my attention. Maybe an anniversary gift for my wife. Today's our anniversary. (She can carry it in her pocketbook)
Perhaps, she'd prefer the IV. I'm thinking of getting the VII and not telling my wife since the VII looks similar to my ol' III.

Sony made enhancements in taking movies and added a mike port (but has no way of attaching the mike to the camera).
Only $6.49 at Amazon. $2.47 on EBay.

I apologize for bothering the group. I changed the preference to shoot jpg and nef and my mistake was that I did not hit the ok button to save my selection. I am learning.
Actually, a good lesson.
1. When powering up your camera for a day, check all your settings. On my D850, I just press the "info" button and review, and change if needed, all the major settings. Sorta like one-stop shopping.
(I changed the default 10-second display duration to 1-min so I'm not hurried.)

When I travel I always take a few of the VSGO sensor swabs and liquid along. Cleaning the sensor only takes a few minutes if the blower and the camera's shaker mode don't do the job.
My travel kit: Blower, Sensor brush, Swabs & liquid, Magnifier.
Scrunch up the blower and secure with a rubber band. Believe it or not, some securities have interpreted blowers as grenades. A good-quality sensor brush is cheaper and smaller than Arctic Butterfly. Use blower on bristles. Swabs and liquid take up almost no room. You can usually find a small magnifier tha will work.

Another vote for GoodSync. I use a few automatic backup methods. However, GoodSync can back up only the folders you want (e.g. "Pictures") to an external drive. Just plug in the drive and GoodSync does the rest. See http://asktimgrey.com/2015/04/17/backup-recommendation/

Has this topic really gone to four pages? Really?
Yep. Many respond with with stuff that's not germane to the original post.

On my Nikon D850, I've can configure the "Fn2" -> My Menu to include the "Format memory card" option. Not much faster, but available. Personally, I'm nevery in a big hurry to re-format a memory card.

Hi Jerry . . . to my knowledge, all cameras allow formatting from within . . . and it is highly recommended. Can't say about the latest versions, but we were always advised that formatting in one camera and using the card in another could cause card errors, so when we went out to shoot a wedding we had our formatted cards designated to each particular camera.
I think this discussion is only about in-camera formatting via the menu or shortcut buttons, when available.

On my Nikon's I use both menu's and the red buttons. Menus are easier to switch between cards.
I think switching cards via the two-button method is faster and easier assuming you can read the microscopic card icon on the Control Panel LCD. I think it always defaults to the primary slot.

I format my Nikon via the menu, mostly because I forget about the two-button-formatting feature, which is faster and easier.
What formattting does to the memory card is a different subject. I'm assuming Nikon formatting via the menu or two-buttons is the same.

That whole process seems amazingly primitive now...
When I started, I developed film in racks of seven rolls per rack. The machine lifted the racks from one chemical tank to the next. Worked great unless a rack fell and I had to untangle the mess in total darkness. The printer was loaded with long rolls of paper. The operator looked at each negative and pushed one of several buttons to adjust the exposure. The print was then cut from the roll and dropped into a rocking tank of developer. Brightness and contrast was adjusted by exposure and developer times. When the print looked good, a person would toss it into the fixer tank. The prints moved through the rocking bank of tanks and dumped into a basket. We'd then place each print onto a gas-heated chrome drum to dry. Dried prints were then individualy sorted by putting them into pigeonholes for pricing and packaging. Times have changed. I don't miss those days.
