Hello YellowDog and David M, and other UHHers. Thank you all for your suggestions. YellowDog - SanDisc used to sell those two sided USB drives in Costco. I have several. And yes, they would do the job with the intermediate step of transferring the photos to the SanDisc first. The nice thing is that you can actually make folders in that USB drive as you copy off your iPhone, which makes it faster to then upload them to your computer. David M, I’ll check out the app you gave the link for. Thanks to everyone for offering suggestions. JimR

Hello Jim. Yes, I own a Canon 5Div, and also several Olympus MFT camera bodies. They are all great. I have no problem at all with those photos or uploading them onto my computer. So to answer your question, I do use a “real camera” in fact, several. My question pertains only to uploading photos taken with an iPhone, as we don’t have our “real” cameras with us all the time. Thanks for your reply. JimR

Hi Mark, and other UHHers. Thank you. Mark, I have been using the method in the YouTube video for years now, using the convention YYYY-MM-DD. All of these folders are in a photos folder on my D drive. That is not the problem. (When I manually upload photos from the SD card, I make up my new folders as I go.)

The problem is when you plug your iPhone 11 into the PC (with Windows 11) “it” just uploads all the photos in one continuous folder, just as you would see it on your iPhone. In the past, it would automatically sort into folders by date, but no more. So you are left with a jumble of photos, all uploaded into one huge folder, and not in the place you want it anyway. I was looking specifically for a way, when you plug the iPhone in to the connecting cord to the PC, to have it sort the photos into folders by date. The way it used to do on our older computer. Any thoughts on that? Thanks much to everyone. JimR

Does anyone know of an app for a Windows 11 PC, that will help transfer photos from a connected iPhone 11, organizing them in folders by date? Right now, using just the Windows OS, it puts all the photos in one place (of its choosing) in a continuous scroll. I would like to have them transfer into folders by date, and also have them save to the D drive, not the C drive. (D drive is a large capacity internal SSD specifically for photos.). Thank you!

I made the same decision a year or so ago. I was using the Canon. 5D Mkii and was considering both a Canon mirrorless, or the 5D Mkiv. My decision to go with the 5D Mkiv was because of my investment in lenses, all of which would either be used with an adapter, or else start replacing them. I find the Mark iv to be very capable, has an improved menu system, and the resolution is half again as good as the Mark ii. I am very happy with my decision, plus which I’ve avoided the gradual (over time) “desire” to replace my lenses with ones specifically for mirrorless. As to responsiveness, record speed, frames per second, I am very satisfied. Good luck with your decision. JimR

Hello TMK. Like you, I got my first Olympus camera and lenses because of size and weight. Once you register your camera, you should be getting emails from Olympus that regularly offer webinar type tutorials. Some of their experts talk about types of photography such as landscape, macro. But other tutorials are specifically on the camera, its feature, tips and hints and so forth. Initially I found these very useful. Also I always download the complete manual to my iPad so it will always be handy and available. Hope this helps. JimR

Hi JC. Since I carry an iPad anyway, I use that for my trip backup. There is a simple SD card input accessory sold by Apple to make this easy. However, I have learned not to edit on the iPad as the process often results in a much lower resolution. But it’s a great way to actually preview your photos at the end of each day. Hope this helps. There are two different chains on this subject today. Here is a question I just posed on the other one, only because it was higher on the list of topics in today’s UHH:
Do we really need this update - that is, other than the features Canon specifically mentions in their notification, are there other features that provide additional security, or faster cycle time, or anything like that? I for one do not use the specific new features that Canon mentions in their notice. If anyone has information on this aspect it will be appreciated. Thank you. JimR

My wife uses Shutterfly. Their products are exceptional, and if there is a problem (only one time some of the photos went to the edge of the page and were slightly cut off) they replace the book with no issues at all. You should check out for initial offers for new customers. Once you are a regular, they will from time to time offer things like free additional pages, and free shipping. So my wife prepares her photo book on their site and then waits for the special offers. We have gone back many many times, and their products are quality, and durable (as we have some that are from 2014 and the binders are good as new). Happy photo book making!

I went through the exact same thought process a couple of years ago for an upcoming trip to Italy. I too am a Canon user, but the camera and lenses were too big for what I wanted to be doing. I wound up with a used Olympus PEN-F, and a “pancake” lens. When the lens is mounted, it looks like a point and shoot. The lens has a zoom range of say 25 to 80 in 35mm equivalent. It fits in your pocket with this lens mounted. I also bought a used zoom lens that I carried in a small pouch, equivalent of about 30 - 300. That’s all I needed, and used it first back then, and then for two subsequent trips to Europe. Hope you have a great time! JimR

I’ve been doing this slowly for a year now, using a camera and Nikon ES2 slide copy rig with a fixed focal length macro lens. It works great.
My thinking is to use the maximum resolution and file size because the subject is such a small image. By doing that, when it is enlarged to show on a tv or monitor, there is minimum loss of sharpness.
Hope you have success with this project. By the way, I e posted I. The past some photos of my setup.

You are getting a few interesting replies. In my own case, I bought one used along with a used Olympus PEN-F. The main reason I use this combination is that it looks like a cheap point and shoot camera, and it fits in my pocket easily. When I travel to overseas cities, it is the best combination for just walking around, not being obvious, and since the lens is a zoom lens, it is perfect for taking quick, high quality shots. If I’m touring in the country, I do switch to a more standard type zoom lens. JimR

Trying again to attach a photo. Hello Bsprague. Yes, I use an adapter ring. The LUMIX 30mm macro has a 46mm filter thread. The Nikon ES-2 comes with two adapters, and I use one of those screwed into the step up ring (I bought separately) that goes from 46mm to 58mm. I am attaching a photo. At the left side of what you see, a slide holder for two slides permits you to do two photos each round. There is another holder for negatives. If any questions, just PM me and I’ll try to help further. JimR
