I am not one to join web groups, but I am passionate about photography--40 years. I own Nikon gear. I will give my reason--one I never seen given. I have lenses from the 1970s that still work with my 2016 camera. No other company has offered that. As the current saying says 'Cameras are dispossible, but glass you keep'. I think Canon does have excellent sensors. Nikon has always farmed theirs out, usually to Sony. I will also say that I have seen great photos from very humble cameras. It is the eye and not the equipment. Now a day, it is also photoshop--actually, more photoshop.
I will also make another statement that I have not heard elsewhere. Artists have always used the best color spectrum available. Ansel Adams used B&W because that was the photoshop of its day. He would not do so today. All the famous painters painted in color. B&W has its place, but it is limited.
