I thought it was a Long-Billed Thrasher.... Labeling went awry. And a Lady Red Bird, Cardinal. The Roadrunner was perched there as I drove down a Sendero, dirt road. He appeared to be looking for something. Twisted and turned for quit a while.
Thanks ya'll
I love the birds, but my real passion is deer....

Thanks ya'll.. all these were taken with a Contax lens converted to Canon mount. I like the way Contax renders color.
A few shots of some weeds...
I saw the finish. The buck on the left in the first photo was dominate, lost part of his rack but strutted the field for a while. Then when off and joined the ladies.
Our Whitetail are large by Eastern standards, but most famous for their racks.. these guys are about 4. Should last at least two more years... unless nature, illness or drought does not taken them.

This is an old shot, that I re-worked.It was shot with a D30 Canon. I was sitting in the open at a tank (pond for
you non-country folk...) when this guy came up. It was very dry, had not rained for several months, not unusual for South Texas. He approached and watched me from the brush for some time. After about 30 minutes, he stepped out and started to drink, all the while watching me. I guess he thirstier than scared. As long as I made no sudden moves he was happy to quench his thirst. We were about 50 feet apart.

Indian Paint Brush and Blue Bonnets bloom at the same time... late in February till early May. It depends on rain, HEAT and location. (South Texas to North Texas is a long way) They do grow in the same fields, but the Paint brush seem to group together. I have been told it is the way the germinate. Texas Highway Department seeds the medians of the highways with both species. Thanks Ya'll.......
Several shots from around Texas

Pedernales Falls (near LBJ's home)
Old Water Storage Tank
Captured this shot just after sunrise on a overcast day... mating season and the guys were
strutting their stuff.... Reminded me of the Movie of the same name...
They are good eating.... In Texas there is no season on them. Hunted year round
In Cotulla, we have a Wild Hog Cook Off every year. Some of the dishes they make are amazing....
This guy is very young... as they age some males can get to be 500lbs +
They destroy the pasture grubbing for roots... and their litters can average 8-12 biannually
I DO much prefer to shoot deer with a camera... but I am not against hunting, if done properly. Not just for a trophy.
