This could be the long overdue vent that you've needed.

Yeah I will try talking to someone and writing as well.
It might helps in more ways than one.

Sometimes it flows more freely from the pen, you can always type it later.

You might be right.
Actually I stopped writing when my new stepdad came into the picture when I was 10.
He is the reason for my negativity and hate.

I don't know, but it seems like there's a writer in there looking to get out.

Could be, I was pretty good at fiction as a kid.
But havent written anything fictitious since elementary school.
I used writing as an escape from reality I think.
Ill need to learn to type properly to be effective at it.

There is one thing that you might try and that is writing. Just put into words your observations of life. you don't have to be eloquent just honest. You never know it might be the right fit. Just don't beat yourself up trying to think up something to write about, it will come to you.

I have a lot inside, but honestly its mostly negative stuff.
My mind is very congested with hate and have trouble seeing past it.
Anything I wrote would be depressing to read I am afraid.
Not being good at something doesnt mean it wont be good to try it though I suppose.
Even if no one reads it there still might be benefit to writing it.

As it is I lie here everyday thinking about all the things I want to do like play tennis with my daughter or sit down at a restaurant with my wife and get pissed that I cant do it.

How about painting? such as still life's that you can paint sitting down or pencil sketches, no investment there. get a book at the hobby shop to start and learn. you never know what may work out for you.

I have tried art i that form, and I have ZERO talent. I took classes even as a kid, even my penmanship is terrible.
I even have a friend that has even tried to help me, said, maybe you should stick to what you are good at.
The problem is I cant do many of the things I am good at anymore.
Photography is art as well I know, but the canvas is already out there waiting for me to find it, not make it.
There are pictures in my head, but I cant get them on paper or canvas.

At that level of income, can you really afford photography at all? I would think that all your money would go towards bills and such.

Not really, but I am going crazy!
I need a hobby that isnt so physically taxing.
Wouldnt you know my vision would be an issue now.

All these shots are with the nikon 18-55mm - do not waste money on getting another lens until you start taking good shots.

Some of those shots look really nice, I find myself really drawn to the HDR shots.
Like his shot by Emil Athanasiouhttps://www.flickr.com/photos/emil9497photography__art/11771887754/in/photolist-bfJpAR-qxyxSx-pY8dvq-hjQSw4-nKhjyZ-pZrZn2-nToZ4D-rmdJKp-5BZ11j-oHr7vW-nQsgzL-o4jCDJ-iWf16Y-sarZMR-nbfoNd-dTikAW-hBrJUf-ee26Lt-jsVUY2-eqRKmA-hmnWvr-iiGYWb-pN6uUZ-sskkW9-6APF5L-78wimE-o6BYzm-fEt3fs-fLm3sZ-6iRmhy-9iSdui-f1XwEf-6QrEGp-e7VLf1-gUNLrB-rfnNwq-7GQar1-qHFP9v-9fxb6F-ipa9eB-fEbuo4-8Nuq7h-qy5HE4-6AcEq3-4PsbJQ-85zFsB-6DSHQi-aaSquK-6nLqkW-8Mo2Ym/

Once upon a time I held autofocus in contempt. But as I grow older with diminished eyesight there is no way that I can beat autofocus on my Nikon. I have 18-55, 18-105 (the best) and 18-135 plus a 55-200 and a few others from film days which also work ok. I also have a lot of old manual focus lenses from film cameras and I find that I can scale focus since I can guestimat distances well and the photos come out great.

Do you like the range on the 18-105 better than the kits lens, or better optics?

I have noticed my "kit 18-55" lens while it has autofocus, it doesnt focus as well as it could.
Thinking it was my eyes until I out it into manual indoors where light didnt ruin my sght, and was able to focus further.
Is the the case with all AF-S lenses, or just the low end kit lenses?

Ok well I was wrong, the pictures in manual focus are less focused and just looks more clear in viewfinder prior to snap.
Not sure if it my vision or the viewfinder.

bassman, the height of the tripod is up to you. If you don't want to be stooping all the time (rough on knees and backs) get one that goes to your eye level standing up. Extending the top post, weakens the sturdiness of the tripod, so I would save that for times when you are on uneven ground and need that extra height. If you intend to shoot the stars, you will need extra height beyond your own to get the angle for tilting the camera upwards. Not sure of the brand you have chosen and have no idea of the quality of it. (Someone else may be able to help.) Manfrotto makes great tripods and of good quality, I know that. The sturdier the tripod, the greater the weight unless you get the carbon fiber ones and they are very expensive. Also, most quality tripods come without a head and they are extra. This is because different types of shooting favor different types of heads. You will have to find the balance that suits you. A cheap compromise, and very light weight would be a monopod. Giotto makes a really good one, model #9780 and Amazon sells it for 53.22. It weighs 1.4 lbs and holds large lenses up to a total of 33 lbs. Doubt you will ever outgrow it. Comes with a carry case too.

One more thing I'll caution you about and that is the extension legs on a tripod. They come in two versions; snap clips and screw threads. The snap clips are great until they break or loose their grip. The screw threads, you just keep tightening them a little more if they get loose. I have had 2 tripods that are junk now because the snap clips break, so now I only buy the screw threads.

Good luck and remember that any tripod is better than no tripod and in time you may own more than one.

I am 6'1" with shoes on, and slightly taller with boots, but not sure my eye level.
Bending and stooping are definitely not optimal if I want to enjoy taking pictures.
It seems a monopod and tripod are both necessary for different occasions.
I will look again at the Costco ones linked here also.
I would rather save money, but not means breaking equipment and/or buying new tripod when it beaks.
