Actually, it goes like this: "Someone's mom has 4 sons, North, West,South. What is the name of the fourth son. So, it is given in the first line of the sentence that SOMEONE'S mom has 4 sons. The names of three sons are given as North, West and South. So, the name of the fourth son will be "someone".

[quote=johneccles]Once again California is experiencing terrible forest fires destroying homes, farms and businesses leaving behind a trail of damage affecting 1000's of residents

"johneccles" you only need to read your 1st sentence. California's infrastructure is archaic and doesn't represent the country. I have lived in seven states and have never seen "sparking" from transformers, nor have I read of any homes (other than in California) that have burned because of "sparking).

How is your Brexit coming along?

Yes, this is a mess. I think there are - what - just eight days left before withdrawal? I hear that people are demanding another chance to v**e.

I'm an American with several great English friends who support Brexit for many reasons that I respect. I have read (and have been told) that those that want to stay in the EU, along with some wanting a re-v**e are many MP's that ignore the people's v**e to leave the EU and v**e based on their personal ideologies, which often is to stay in the EU. Some also believe that Ms. May is complicit with British "remainers?!?"

It'd be great to hear from British members of the hedgehog, for some reality as to what is really happening.

As an Amazon shareholder, with the restrictions that NYC put on the deal, I am happy that Amazon walked away. It was a good business decision for a number of reasons.

Rich, I agree. Amazon was the big winner by coming to their senses by pulling out of New York. I could never understand why they chose to go to New York over the many other options they had. They dodged the big liberal bullet.

Problem is, most Conservatives are i***ts. Here's how bad Amazon needed those concessions:

Ah, I was waiting for the real rabid liberals to come out, with delusional name calling because they don't have an argument that can make an iota of sense! The real issue is how bad did New York need the Amazon proposal...it was liberal Democrats that in doing something correct in needing to approve the Amazon deal because the high taxes they imposed on industry was losing companies and hence thousands of jobs to a more conservative business climates. Now your liberal (socialist) i***ts have proven that New York City is not a place to set-up shop.

I really suggest that anyone really interested in climate, and feel so learned to make climate a political event, especially in believing we're doomed because its warming, and must give our country away to fight it, is to read NASA's report, where their findings reverse their originally belief in the political nonsense that the Earth is warming..their recent findings prove that for 2 1/2 years the Earth has been cooling.

Jest sayin'!

Back during the Great Recession of 2009, TN continued paying Volkswagen $500M in perks for a new factory while letting GM Saturn (in Nashville) close down and go out of business.

Charles...The city of Nashville had nothing to do with GM's Saturn Division closing. No amount of money would likely change GM's or the UAW's minds. see the Forbes article on how GM destroyed the success of Saturn, https://www.forbes.com/2010/03/08/saturn-gm-innovation-leadership-managing-failure.html#196d2b916ee3

Meanwhile the VW plant in Tennessee is doing very well, and has announced a further investment of $800 million to build electric cars in Tennessee.

I suggest that perhaps you should do the math...and read again, From The New York Post, "...only about 13 percent of registered Democrats turned out to v**e in the 14th Congressional District that takes in parts of Queens and the Bronx, according to a preliminary city Board of E******ns tally.
There are 214,750 active registered Democratic v**ers in the district. Only 27,744 v**ed, and Ocasio-Cortez won by more than 4,000 v**es. Get it? Registered Democrat v**ers!

My daughter lives near Racine, Wisconsin, where FoxConn, amid much fanfare and taxbreaks, promised 13, 000 jobs, many of them factory jobs. Now theyve pulled out of that plan and decided they can't make money doing that and instead will hire R&D people. Meanwhile, real estate prices and rent rose, people and businesses had to move, and the community is left high and dry.

There are so many instances of businesses getting large tax breaks and then leaving within a few years. When will governments wise up and stop making these deals?

Hey "Blue Morel" I couldn't find any examples of businesses bailing a few years after getting large tax breaks. Id appreciate if you would share who they are.

[quote=Cykdelic]It’s an interesting model IF one does the math and the company follows through.

Not so oddly, AOC appears to be so ignorant in both taxation and the laws she is on record as saying that NY can now use that money to give things to current New Yorkers (let me amend that.....it’s actual stupidity).

Excellent analysis, "Cykdelic" everyone should read what you wrote. I'll just add, There’s a reason the old saying, “be careful what you wish for,” is an old saying. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may wind up learning that the hard way. In the wake of Amazon’s decision last year to plant one of its new headquarters in New York City, and with it 25,000 jobs in exchange for generous tax breaks, Ocasio-Cortez did what any good socialist would do. She slammed the deal.

At the time, it seemed like a pretty safe bet. The jobs were already coming, so why not take the opportunity to stick your finger in the eye of the big, mean, nasty corporation? Today, all that changed. She fished what she wished and Amazon decided not to bring tens of thousands of jobs to New York City after all. Today, her effective opposition to the deal is a much different story, one in which she has to defend creating less opportunity for working New Yorkers.

Like every other "great project that will bring thousands of jobs," it's the tax payers of NYC who would pay Amazon millions to move there. If Amazon had moved in like any other business and paid it's fair share, that would have been fine. Giving handouts to billionaires seems to be the American way, but it's not good for the people who actually pay taxes.

From what I have read, not a penny would be paid to Amazon by "the tax payers," instead, Amazon would benefit from $2.9 billion in tax breaks. In return Amazon would create much needed high paying jobs in New York for 25,000 additional taxpayers.
