As a side note here: I was just about to take the plunge on a SanDisc SSD 1T from Costco and ran into tons of on-line reviews cautioning one about the many reports of problems with that particular drive dating back to about May '23. Some were much more recent than that causing me to be hesitant about the SanDisc 1T Extreme Go SSD. Can anyone update me on this

I've been using one of these for assorted backup. Seems fine.

I think with the 128 or 256 cards the cards will get pretty heavy when you load them up with data...
That's why I mostly use 32s. Saves weight.

Yes,
Shooting birds is it's own level of use.
There is always a lot of chaff in the shooting.... pretty easy to fill a 32g card in an hour or 2.

Across instagram there are so many great bird in flight photos.
It's impossible for me to imagine how anyone could take photos like
These 30 years ago before modern equipment.

The only time I have killed a 32 was in Iceland when the terns were mating.
I filled the card in under an hour. It was amazing.
I pretty much always have a half a dozen spares and a few batteries waiting.

Thanks for the replies.
128g will have maybe 4,000 frames?
Do you erase and keep using the card? Curious how you manage the flow.
You download the card every once in awhile in normal use?

I always find it daunting to look at several thousand photos to edit or select for processing.

I have pretty much always used 32g cards. Big enough.
I use a full frame Canon R6 so the files are pretty big.
It brings me in around 1,000 frames.
Generally on a 2 week travel vacation I will pretty much fill a card and sometimes I'll use 2 camera so 32g each.

I did manage to fill 4 cards on a recent to Iceland... never before more than 2.
After a trip I'll generally save the cards and file them.
Locally I'll erase and reuse the cards.

I see but can't really grasp using a giant card... 256g, more?
Why?

Anyway,
What does everybody think on this?

Having undergone this "transition" the answer is yes.
Simple and they work fine with a relatively inexpensive adaptor.
All the camera functions work as they did w the older camera.

I had a 6D for 10 years and a year ago I bought an R62.
The 6D is a solid camera.
The R62 is infinitely better for shooting birds, not close.
The tracking on the 6D was marginal at best. The mirror less R62 tracking is vastly superior and the eyeball focus can't
Be beat.
My suggestion is to move to the new technology if yr making this step. It's worth it.
The camera is also quite a bit lighter as well. All pluses.

We stayed in Grundavik this past summer. Nice little seacoast fishing town. Hope it survives.
Iceland is a great place to visit. A volcano visible from Grundavik was erupting while we were there.
Iceland is a geological hot spot for sure.

Remarkable machinery. Surprised that the lenses don't cost a lot more!
