I might have found a solution to the harsh shadows....If you can't beat them....exploit them. I thought the background needed some work as well.

Wow Eric, that looks really awesome!

A friend of mine told me about a lens flair.

I gambled a bit on the soft look.

Looks good, and very natural!

I shot this last summer while my wife and I were out looking for old barns in the middle Tennessee area.

You are welcome to download the image here to your computer and then edit it any way you want. Composites, color shifts, black and white conversions, enhancements, it's all good. Then post your edit in this thread. On Thursday at around 9 pm we will start the voting. At that point no more edits will be accepted for this week. While your enthusiasm is very much appreciated, it is suggested that you only post one edit. Thank you all.

I am having a really hard time with this one as I love things about each edit. It comes down to #9 or #10 to me - so I will pick #9 as I think Don completely transformed my pic into something I would have loved to capture initially! I will try not to offend with a vertical landscape again if I am so lucky to lead off in the future lol ;)

Don't be offended by those dopey comments, you provided an excellent pic!

I really did not much care for any but I am voting for #8. I hate vertical format landscape photos.

I like your sun flair Don. I tried the same thing a couple of days ago but lost my patients.
The major improvements on mine were opened shadows, whites and increased exposure. I did a mid tone luminosity mask to brighten the mid tones. The sky is the same but I added the clouds with a white cloud brush.

Thanks Jim. There are a couple of different ways to do it Photoshop, depending on the effect you are trying to achieve. The glowing sun, the beams and the lens flare are three separate techniques that I merged together for the final result.

I do like the results you achieved as well!

Great pic Deer. I've been here in TN for almost 20 years and still haven't been to Rock Island ... yet. ;-) Here's my submission ...
