Now for something from a compulsive. I store all my photos on a PC-Cloud drive. I have a separate folder for each year (yyyy), then subfolders for each month (yyyy-mm). For special events or trips, I create a special folder that starts with that format, like 2023-06_Italy. I then have separate folders in THAT folder for each city using the day... i.e. 2023-06-24_Rome_Spanish_Steps. (The key on this is making note of each day on my iPhone as to date/time and which city or event I am at so I can catalog them when I get home.)
FINALLY, I get to the pictures. Windows provides a field called "Date Taken" and (as long as you update your time on your camera!), you can use this to create a filename with time taken... like 20230624-214700 (if I take more than 1 photo in a minute, I increment the 00 for 01, 02, 03, etc.) After THAT long filename format, I can add a description, like I do with the folder names for special events or to identify the subject.
I can then sort them all by the filename and get them in chronological order (no matter which device I used to take the photo).
Yeah, this is really time consuming and COMPULSIVE, but it makes it really easy to get the photos in the right order... and it fits my "detail-oriented" personality.
Here in The States, there are a LOT of companies and the quality of butter varies quite a bit. I do remember the term (I grew up in the '50s) but even now, if you purchase several brands, you can tell the difference.
May favourite used to be "Land O'Lakes" butter but it seems to have lost something in the last few years. Maybe it is because they went to being politically correct and removed the Native American woman from the box. Maybe it was because people figured out how her knees were actually nipples... but I remember that from back in the '70s.
I had a mustache off and on... most off than on. When COVID hit, I started to grow the mustache and it got "carried away". When people ask my wife about it, she responds "you learn to pick your battles."
Those are some amazing pics. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the info. I definitely need to do a lot of research and was hoping that y'all could send me on a good path.
Thanks. We should all be so lucky at 91 (although 91 is a lot closer than it was). My wife likes to do a lot of traveling and I've enjoyed taking her "reference photos" for her art work. This last trip, though, had me rethinking my equipment.
Thanks for the medical response... I'll try that. I've been using Acetaminophen but it really hasn't done much. I have noticed that when I regularly go to the Y, it seems to add to the range of motion.
Thanks for the quick reply. I'd say that, at MOST, about 5% of my shots are at the 18mm end... maybe a little higher % on the 270 side. Maybe a shorter range would take off some weight and put the old lens in the bag (bet I never pull it out!)
The shoulder is an old-age thing. When you start in the late 60s and now into 70, things seem to fall apart. I've had the shots but they don't do a thing. Going to the Y and doing weights does seem to alleviate it some. Amazing you can press reps of 80 to 100 pounds but can't carry a 4 pound camera!
I have a Nikon D5200 with a Tamron 18-270mm zoom lens. I LOVE this camera, takes SUPERB pictures and Nikon has made it really easy to operate (even for "the wife".) Recently, I've been having problems with my shoulder and carrying this has been difficult.
Should I go with a mirrorless camera for less weight and, if so, which one do you suggest? The lens may be the issue for the weight; is there a similar quality zoom lens that has a lighter weight?
(I did Canon back in my 35mm days but really like the Nikon.)
Free definitely fits my pocketbook - thanks!
I'll give that one a try - thanks!!!
So, I've been charged with converting a bunch of VHS and VHS-C cartridges. I have a converter (someone gave me) that converts to ASF files. I've been converting, but not watching carefully, so have 1 min to 10 mins of air time at the end. Also, some are multiple files/events on the same tape.
What is a good software tool to trim the excess off the end or to split the ASF file into multiple files?
Since I'm doing this for a family member, don't want to spend a lot of money. Free software would fit in my price range!
I agree with "Ouch". I've always been under the belief that you buy the best you can afford. Time, patience and experience with your equipment are how you learn to use them properly.
