In our city in Northern Ontario Canada the posted speed limit on all school zones is 40 km/hr (approx 24 mph). This speed limit is in effect 24 hrs per day, 365 days of the year (that means all the time!!) They go on the theory that the younger folk not only are there for schooling but also other activities like sports etc outside of regular school time. Thus this is true even when school is out during the summer or Christmas breaks. Not sure what the fines are up here and also not sure if the local constabulary strictly enforces these limits especially during the breaks but I ain’t gonna try and find out personally while behind my steering wheel 😜😜

After years away from the hobby I have plastic air plane model that I want to do a good job on. Having not been in a hobby shop in years if I could even find one' I was wondering is there a type of masking tape fine enough to use that would not bleed through ?

Tamiya , Vallejo, Mr hobby, AK Interactive, Mig all make masking tape specifically for plastic models. sunwardhobbies.ca carry a large supply and ship to the US. I suspect there are many in the US. Sprue Brothers, Andy'sHobby headquarters (Arizona)

if you apply tape over a painted surface I suggest you apply it to your pants or desk first to make it less sticky and prevent it from pulling up fresh paint. Don't ask why I know this!

I have had three Mazdas and love the way they drive. They have a more positive -- in contact with the road feel than any other brand I've owned including Nissan, Toyota, Honda, VW, Buick, Chevrolet, and Mitsubishi. When I went from a sedan to an SUV, I checked with the auto shop we've done business with for 25 years. I listed eight SUVs and asked which he would recommend. He told me the Honda, Toyota, Mazda, and Ford would all be in his opinion suitable. Then I asked which one would be the least expensive to keep up and he said the Mazda by far. The only time they got one in the shop was due to self-inflicted damage by the driver. And so my current CX5 is six years old and has not had a single trip to the mechanic except for tires, oil changes, and windshield wipers.

So to my displeasure: For the last three months, the navigation and sound have been playing for a few minutes and then rebooting like when you stream some programs and they have the swirling arrow go around for a minute or two and then the program reconnects. I stopped by Mazda today and asked if there was a way to reboot the system to stop it from doing that. I was told the service department could look at it and perhaps do something for 50.00 -- okay, no problem there. Then I was informed if the SD card (yes, the auto has a little drawer in the console that has an SD in it) -- if I needed a new SD card, it would be 400.00! What! I mean I can purchase a very good Tom Tom or Garmin for 150 - 200, and I would think a unit with a screen and case would be a lot more expensive than an SD card. The alternative I have decided to go with is to pull the current SD card and do without the navigation. I can simply use my cell phone which I do 99% of the time anyway.

Update: Just checked Amazon -- they have cards for 24.86 with the latest maps. It can be returned if it doesn't work. I ordered one so I will let you know if that fixes the problem.

I normally use the Waze app on my phone through Apple CarPlay, always up to date and gives advices on traffic conditions. I also bought the SD card from Amazon and it works fine but prefer Waze.

I remember when windshield wipers came in different sizes, and if you bought the right size, you were all set. Now, it seems that things are different. The next time you buy wipers, make sure they will actually attach to your car. Yes, I know that wipers come with lots of little pieces to let them attach to most cars - but not all cars.

I wanted to replace the rear wiper on my son's car, so I went to the garage and a got a wiper of the correct size. Nope! Honda has a different type of attachment for the rear wiper, at least. I found another one in the garage that had the required shape, and it went right on. Looking on Amazon, I found wipers that were the correct size, but Amazon said they would not fit the Fit. I bought two sets of wipers designed specifically for the Honda Fit. Now, I'm all set.

I have 2018 Mazda 6 and love it, but wipers have a unique mount only available from the dealership at $58.00 ea CDN plus 13% tax. Due to our wonderful winters it's a new pair of wipers every year. They want $60 ea for Mazda spark plugs which are actually NGK still $29 ea CDN. and because its a Turbo need to be replaced every 40,000 miles.
A resident of my retirement community has many hundreds of 35mm slides she shot in her previous travels around the world. She has begun to participate in the community's photography club. She takes slides to a business somewhere to be scanned, and then has trouble opening the images on her old computer. She doesn't have a photo editor of any kind (but I plan to have a look at her computer in case there is one lurking around somewhere.)

I am going to suggest that she get a 35mm slide scanner so she can do her own scanning. Given the age of her computer, trying to install a new device and software into an old computer might cause problems. So I'm thinking that an offline slide scanner that writes the output image to an SD card might work best in her situation. With images on a card she would be able to copy the images to her computer using an USB SD card adapter. Minolta sells these scanners reasonably priced. address[/https://minoltascanner.com/collections/all] She will just need to produce images of moderate resolution for display at club Zoom meetings. If she wants high-resolution prints, she will take the slide to the business as she has been doing.

Any thoughts?
I have borrowed the identical Kodax version of that unit. It works well for film negatives as you can insert at strip of 4 easily and slide them through the unit without removing the carrier . The issue I have for slides is that it takes one at a time and you have to insert and remove the carrier for each slide and the carrier is very tight fitting. You also have to pay close attention that you insert the slide in the correct orientation. I went through over 4000 film negs in a few days but have only done a few dozen slides and am looking for a better solution as it is too tedious using this scanner. That said the .jpg results are satisfactory for posting online. Most of my photos were of the children when they were young, I uploaded to Amazon Photo and sent them a link. They loved it as they only look at them on their phones or iPads. I viewed them on 27 inch 5K iMac and was happy with the results.

Didn’t Canadian gas used to be by Imperial gallon or roughly 5 liters per gallon or am I wrong? It has been 46 years since ai was in Canada.

Canada changed over to litres in 1979. 23.6 cents then

A U S gallon equals 3.785 litres

A Canadian (Imperial) gallon is 4.55 litres

Gas in Toronto ON currently runs 161.9 -173.9 per litre

Vancouver BC runs 192.1 -200.9 per litre

I know that Canada is r****t, what I didn't know is that Canadians favor tyranny and draconian measures when it comes to C***d. Apparently more than one in four people support jail time for those who refuse the shot, makes me ashamed to be Canadian.

Don't agree with jail time but, from the same newspaper article:

"Sixty-one per cent of the respondents said it would be ok to make the unv******ted pay “a monetary healthcare surcharge on their taxes of up to $150 per month.” That’s the same percentage that said it would be ok to make such individuals “pay out of pocket for the full medical cost” if they are admitted to hospital or the ICU with C****-**.

“The sentiment out there is, if you’re going to clog up the healthcare system, then you’re going to pay for it yourself,” Wright said."

another article

"83 per cent of eligible Ontarians five and older and 89 per cent over 12 are fully v******ted, while the unv******ted make up eight-to-11 per cent of those populations. Just on that basis, the unv******ted are about four times more likely to need intensive care when infected by C***D. But the ratio of v******ted people versus unv******ted climbs even higher with age, as does the percentage of individuals who get severely ill.

So the rate of unv******ted people in ICUs in Ontario adjusted or “standardized” for age is 254 per million, compared to 22 fully v******ted, according to the province’s science advisory table ."

Well, it comes in a three-pack. Take it or leave it. I know it will get used up eventually.

Thanks.

The active ingredient in bleach, sodium hypochlorite, naturally breaks down into salt and water. The rate of breakdown increases rapidly when bleach is stored in extreme hot or freezing temperatures, or when a bottle is more than one year old. Generally, bleach stored at room temperature (~70°F) has a shelf life of one year, but after that point it should be replaced.

Have any of you used either of these for post processing? Can the monitor be calibrated? Pro’s and con’s for using the iMac or iMac pro for post processing?

Yes, I calibrate my late 2014 iMac using a xrite color munki. I would suggest 32GB of memory and have not had any issues with Lightroom 6 or the latest versions of ON1 and Luminar

"The Bad

The Buttons - by far, my biggest complaint about the X-T1 are the buttons, especially those on the 4-way directional pad. They are too recessed and don't provide enough feedback to know when they've been pressed. I understand that changes were probably necessary to accommodate weather sealing, but these are the buttons many people use the most. I now find the task of changing my AF point to be a more difficult and slower process. While this isn't a deal breaker for me because my subjects tend to be stationary, it may be for those that need to change their focus point quickly.

The Threaded Shutter Button - or lack there of, most likely another trade off to accommodate weather sealing. This won't matter to some, but for anyone that wants exposure times exceeding 30 seconds, a $50 remote from Fuji is now required (at least until something cheaper comes along)."

You can use a cheap 3rd party remote shutter release designed for a Canon that has a 2.5mm plug which is what I use also if you have a smartphone there is a free app for android and IOS. I have also used this as it gives a preview on your iPhone or iPad and allows several other adjustments as well as uploads to your device or worse case just hold down the shutter button as you will be on a tripod anyways

I have a new Fujifilm xt1. I am trying to take night sky photos but cannot get the shutter speed slower than 1 second. The dial to set the shutter speed when it's on T doesn't work, and even bulb mode doesn't work. I have faithfully followed the directions in the manual.

Suggestions?

Or is my camera just broken? Everthing else seems to work fine.

Time exposure is described on page 64 of the manual.

This is how it is suppose to work

Time (T) Rotate the shutter speed dial to T then ROTATE the front command dial to choose between 30s and 2s. Press the shutter button and a count-down will be displayed while the exposure is in process.

Bulb (B) Rotate the shutter speed dial to B Press the shutter button all the way down. The shutter will remain open for up to 60 minutes while the shutter button is pressed and the display shows the elapsed time since the exposure started.

The gotcha here (in B mode) is if the aperture is in (A) it fixes the shutter speed at 30s therefore you have to pick a manual aperture (eg F8) if you wish to go beyond the 30s. This caught me the first time I tried this function.

If that doesn't work then you do have a defective camera

Good Luck
