I am certainly not a herpetologist so I rely on reference material and park rangers to identify these critters. According to the field guide, copperheads don't come this far south. Their range in Florida is listed as limited to the northern part of the panhandle bordering Alabama and Mississippi.

"Water Moccasin" is a generic term for all three species of cottonmouths. Florida has its very own species. I found this one sunning itself just above the water.

According to the ranger that I talked to, the green tip on its tail indicated that it is still growing. He said that at maturity the green will fade away.

I am becoming more comfortable, though not necessarily more adept, at using LR Classic CC and PS CC. So, I went back and re-edited some wildlife photos from Addo Elephant Park, Kruger NP, South Africa, Tarangire and Serengeti NP's, Tanzania and Six Mile Cypress Slough and Lakes Park, Fort Myers. I threw in two of a GWH captured in my backyard. I don't think that I posted any of these before.

The pictures from Kruger NP were taken with a Canon Rebel T4i and the rest were shot with a Nikon D5500. I used a kit zoom lens for all of the images. The details should be in the exif data if you are interested.

Hope you enjoy them.

Nice shot! The PL, TL and other designations come from our section moderators RGG, Bob and Gene. I cannot, however, locate the post that explained them (when you are 79 you are lucky to know what day it is).

There are several posts at the top of the Panorama section about the rules of the road. Two of them are: Topic List, TL, for tutorials, etc. and Panorama List, PL, for downloads that identify subject and location. I would not have found them without your help. Thanks. And thanks to the moderators for being so efficient.

Have you been to the Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson AFB near Dayton, OH? If you liked the NASM in DC, you'll love this museum.

I have not been there yet but I have it on my list of places to visit.

What is "(PL)?" I get the "X15" part.

I just titled the post "X-15". I don't know where the "(PL)" came from.

Got this shot on Lake Lucerne a few weeks ago. Does it qualify as a BIF - Bunny-shaped cloud in flight?

With the thinner air, glaciers and possibly full sun is a UV or CP filter better at 7,000 feet?

Construction began on 11 August 2005. W was president. The keel was laid on 13 November 2009. Obama was president. She was christened on 9 November 2013 (Obama was president), delivered to the Navy on 31 May 2017 (four months into Trump's term) and commissioned on 22 July 2017 (six months into Trump's term). Design work and budget approval probably took several (read many) years before that. She is, of course, the first of her class so many new features to design and prove.

Trump was inaugurated on 20 January 2016, almost eleven years after work began. Actions speak louder than words.

Thanks to all of you again. I got the same result here as in the reviews on the B&H and Nikon web sites; lots of positive opinions. The photos in the Ken Rockwell review were impressive. Thanks for the link, jc.

Thanks to all of you. The 5-year (one year plus four years more for registering) warranty from Nikon makes purchasing new compelling.

I will post some pix once I get it.

Both Nikon and B&H have this lens for less than $200. I am shopping for an inexpensive lens for low light interior shots, museums, churches, galleries, subway stations, etc., with my D5500. I know about the plastic mounting flange but I am not that hard on my kit that this would be a concern.

I have read some of the reviews (there are more than 2100 on B&H and a couple of hundred more on Nikon's site) and they seem to be mostly favorable. Do any who own or owned this lens have any cautions or caveats?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks. That sounds much easier than the crude way I did it.

Our fellow UHHer RMalarz suggested using ImageJ. Anyone using it as a result of this thread should thank him.
