If you shoot 100 % manual , using older lenses [ i do ] , mirror less would be deviating from doing that . The only issue with the mirror / shutter, is that at time birds hears it . As for exposure control , you start with what you think it is , then adjust using the histogram .

Cropping is the issue , so , if you start with a pic that is twice the size , you wont have to crop as much . Also the camera used , the difference in shooting with a 6 mp , or a 50 mp . So the issue of using a device to magnify the pic depend on what you are using .

Retired , a few days ago , a member posted some shots done with a Tamron 150/600 G2 , i posted a comment that said , your great shots prove that there is nothing wrong with that lens . Its like cars , some brands are fine some are not , nothing to do with the price .

It is usually caused by the lens set in auto, the camera cannot see the r stop , does the camera work in manual mode ??? . If you had an older lens that does not have electrical connections , see if that work .

The ideal way [ but not easy to do ] is to have the camera in a sealed container with vacuum applied to it for some time[ hours ], that would totally remove any moisture .[ that is what is done on car / house a/c systems ]. Try some desiccant in a sealed zip lock bag , that also would work , but much slower . look on amazon for a can of desiccant . Some people use rice , but desiccant is much more powerfull .

Did it using an old tokina 400 f5.6 from the 80 s with an old D300, hand held , NO FILTER . Georgetown TX . setting for full eclipse , [ abt 4 minutes long ] iso 500 ,f5.6 , 1/320 sec , short period of blue sky . Now , partial one , 2/3 , light thin clouds , here again no filter , iso 500 , f22 , 1/1000 sec . One shot was taken without cloud [ briefly ] , ended up one or two f stop off . So ended up with descent shots . Never figured out at how to post pics here .have no issue with facebook or local fotoclub . Was going to use an older nikkor 800 f8 , on a tripod , cannot be hand held , but could not shoot vertical . [ great lens for birds ] .

I think he got that because of been under exposed . I took a series of that shot with various f stops , no filter hand held with a 400 mm lens . Wanted to use the 800 , but lens did not go vertical enough on the tripod , cannot be hand held .
