Near the West Bank of the Seine about 9 miles west of the center of Paris. It was formerly the residence of Empress Josephine, the last residence of Napoleon and the head quarters of the French Government from 1800 to 1802. After her divorce from Napoleon , Josephine was awarded Malmaison along with an annual pension of 5 million francs. She lived there until her death in 1814. Napoleon lived there following his defeat at the Battle of Waterloo (1815) and prior to his exile to the island of St. Helena. It is now a National Museum
