Be sure the Circular Polarizing Filter is the thin model. I have the regular Circular Polarizing Filter and have trouble with vignette. I sent the lens back to Sigma for evaluation and they told me vignette is normal and to be expected both in wide angle and telephoto and when using the Circular Polarizing Filter that is not the thin model. I hope this helps. I have a D7100 camera.

Is this the new Sigma 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro C (Contemporary)? If so, it is the same lens I recently purchased to replace my 18-250. I will be following this topic closely. I did have some minor vignetting issues with my old lens but thought it might have been a badly connected lens hood. Were you using a hood?

Yes this is the name 18-300 new lens. 3 months old. Problem from day one.

I had earlier asked for help for solving my Sigma vignette issues and had a lot of solutions posted. I was asked to post my findings when the problem was identified. This is the response I received from one of Sigma repair sites (CRIS): AFTER CONSULTING WITH SIGMA USA REGARDING THIS ISSUE, THE LEVEL OF VIGNETTING PRESENT HAS BEEN FOUND TO BE WITHIN MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS
SEE ENCLOSED DOCUMENT (VIGNETTING TABLES) FOR DETAILED INFORMATION NO PROBLEM FOUND Contemporary | 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 DC ... - SIGMA GLOBAL …

I had another photographer from a local photography club use my lens with the same problem. We both have D7100. When I used his Nikon zoom lens I had no issues. When he used my lens he encountered the same vignette problems. These were the settings we experienced vignette issues-18mm 3.5 aperture and 1/60 shutter; 48mm 4.8 1/4; 82mm 5.3 1/500; 50mm 4.8 1/25; 46mm 4.5 1/250; 38mm 4.2 1/250; 92mm 5.3 1/250 etc….. I will just have live with it and deal with problem in pp. It was not polarizer problem- just the lens.

If the lens was purchased new it is well within its warranty period. I would call Sigma tech support for assistance. It is likely they will want to see your photos, so have them at the ready. Also, be ready to give the specifics about how you took the shot. I can't imagine they won't assist you and do whatever is needed to fix any possible issue with your lens. Good luck and please let us know how helpful Sigma was.

Called Sigma and they did not want to see pictures just mail the lens to one of their repair sites. It will be on its way soon.

I took the D7100 and Sigma lens out with another member of the photo club I joined. He experienced the same problem with the lens and I had no problem with his lens on my camera. Therefore, it is the Sigma 18-300 mm lens that I've had for 3 months. It will be sent back for repair.

Not sure what the story was with the llama, though the sight did make me stop and back up in the middle of the road :) There was a ranch across the road, so maybe it gets to wander at will?

All with Canon T3i and Canon EF 70-300 mm except the Mallard ducks, which was Canon SX50, shot in raw.

Thanks for viewing!

There is a herd of llamas that roam this area on a regular bases. When you find the pooh pile you will really get an idea of the number of llamas back there. The males will pooh in the same pile every time.

My next step is to try a different lens on my camera to determine if it's a lens issue or camera. I called B & H where I bought lens and filter 3 months ago and it is not covered under their warranty. I was referred to Nikon and Sigma regarding issues I face

[quote=mcveed]Well, first of all polarizing filters are not for camera models, they are for lenses. My recommendation for polarizing filters on any camera is to use the very best quality you can afford and remove it when you are shooting at a wider focal length than 40mm (full frame) or 25mm on a D7100 if the sky is in the picture. Polarizers are most effective at darkening blue skies when the camera is pointed at 90 degrees to the sun. With a lens wider than 40mm the angle of view will include different degrees of polarization and cause uneven colour or banding in the sky.[/quote

Thanks for everyone's comments. I'm learning from everyone's comments and sharing of their knowledge

Quote from a review of the sigma 18 - 300: "Falloff of illumination towards the corners is typical of a lens of this type. At 18mm the corners are 1.91 stops darker than the image centre and at 300mm the corners are 1.48 stops darker."

Your lens may simply be slightly worse that average in vignetting. I would try to borrow another lens of the same make and model and try it. If it is better, perhaps you can return yours as defective.

Thank you for your research. We have two babies due in August

Is the polarizer by chance stacked on top of a "protection" filter? If so then take off the protection filter and replace with the polarizer only and see if that works.

No they are not stacked
