Back in 1998,....I once had to shoot a close up assignment of the machined tips of wires used for Angioplasty to insert a balloon-tipped catheter into a narrow or blocked blood vessels.

I was a working for the company that machined these wire tips on precision high speed lathe,...to varying tip shapes to accommodate different Angioplasty applications

I thought the assignment was far beyond my capability,...but after much research came up with the following technique that pleased management.

I obtained excellent 6.4 X high magnification with the following lens stacking setup procedure using a Nikon SLR.

Camera body to a 1.4 telextender,...to a 200mm prime lens,...to a 52mm/52mm reversing ring,...to a 50mm reversed lens.

Results were excellent,...had to use this setup on a precision x & y axis rail,.... to achieve focus and location of wire tip in my viewfinder.....al on a very steady tripod.

I still have all my technical data for many other lens reversal combinations giving many magnification ratios if anyone is interested in how I managed to pull of this assignment.

Was a very enjoyable and educational learning process that produced excellent images for the medical company who manufactured the wires.

I believe I still have the images should anyone want to see my resulting high magnification quality I achieved.

I was really amazed at what can be accomplished with my on hand Nikon lenses and a few accessories.

PS,....the assignment paid vary well at the time which was nice compensation while I was learning.

Thank you for sharing. Very interesting and I would like to see the tech data.

Hi,
I read UHH every day and like the forum and some of the suggestions. I am an amateur photographer using a Canon T4i and usually a Tamron 18-270 lens. I might upgrade sometime to the new Tamron 18-400 lens but we'll see.
Right now I would like to get suggestions about metal/aluminum/acrylic prints. Acrylic is more expensive and I think I will get a good pic for what I want from metal/aluminum.
This is a beautiful sunset pic I took a few weeks ago and it just came out so great I have to print and display it.

This will be for personal use and will be hung in my house. Will probably do a 16x20 or something reasonable in size. i would like to stay under $100 but don't have to.

Anyway, who do you use for metal prints? Any problems to watch out for? Any other suggestions?

thanks,
Mike

I am looking for a light weight tripod connection (plate not the tripod head) that screws directly onto a 1/4" screw- not the quick connection plate that connects to the camera. Although I will need that too. Not looking for brand specific. But lightweight. Thanks.

Here is a link to the one I bought for my monopod.

You can also purchase just a Acra connection clamp at Amazon if you don’t want the tilt feature.

Have you contacted the support folks at Buffalo. They should be able to help you trouble shoot and may offer some help in recovering your files.

That will be easy. Your Mac Operating System includes a Migration App. The folks at the Apple Store will also help you when you purchase your new Mac. Make sure you have your old Mac with you though. You can migrate selectively or completely as desired.

This is all fascinating and I want to state that I am stuck with Apple's iCloud. The choice I have is the bottom level 27 inch iMac = $1799.00; I only want to edit photos, not videos, at this time. I back-up my (4+ year old) MacBook Pro onto an external "PassPort" drive, and it doesn't backup my documents or photos currently on their stupid cloud. I brought my older MacBook Air to the genius bar at the Boylston Street Apple store in Boston about a month ago, and they were no help. I couldn't seem to get thru to them that I WANT a backup of my documents/pictures/videos on a hard drive LOCALLY, besides their iCloud. It's like I was speaking a different language. I just don't think I can get 27 inches high resolution display, PC computer for less then $1,800.00??? Can I or not? Thanks.

I just checked on my Mac. The individual files in Documents in iCloud and backed up by Time Machine are available. The individual photos if using Apple Photos are not. But the complete Apple Photos library file is. Your "Photos" images are contained in this data file. If needed I can recover the complete Photos library from Time Machine but not individual photos. You may want to check your Time Machine setting to make sure the that you have not excluded any important files or directories.

If you are otherwise a happy Mac users then I would not switch to Windows. But, I am sure you can find an adequate Windows machine for less than the cost of a comparable Mac device, but be prepared to pay for regular upgrades to your operating systems as well as buying or subscribing to basic software packages such as work processing and spread sheets. You will also need to export all of your images from Photos prior to moving them to a windows machine.

You might consider subscribing and learning Lightroom This will allow you to control the location of your images and enable you to recover selected images from your backup drive. But again you will need to export your images from Photos and then import them into Lightroom.

I use Lightroom as my primary editing package. All photos are imported and edited in Lightroom. I then export selected photos as 8"x10" jpg file and import them into the Photos app. This makes them available to my family members on their computers, iPhone and iPads via our common iCloud account.

Good luck with your decision.

Thank you for your comments. My wife, the resident horticultist, has pointed out this is Red Maple not a Silver Leaf as I originally posted. Should have asked for a proof read.😉

We have had an unusually hard winter this year in SW TX. Only the very cold hardy plants have survived. But, our Silver Leaf Maple is budding out and is a welcome site for the local bee population. Here are a few shots. Comments are welcomed.

You need to use sRGB when you post. If you do not the image will be dull after UHH creates the thumbnail. The original is untouched.

This is one of UHH dirty secrets (there are more)

Lesson learned. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
