I’m sure this will stir conversations about whether or not it makes a difference or not but it really improves the amount of time it takes for the scope to settle down when affected by wind or even just focusing.
I cringe whenever I see a telescope balanced with the weight all the way at the end of the rod.

Beautiful telescope and I’m just hoping to help you get the most from it.

Yes I’m still alive out here in Albuquerque.
Looking forward to being centerline in October for the annular eclipse and trying to figure out where to go for the full eclipse.

I’m adding a photo to show I practice what I preach.

Stay safe out there and I hope all is well with you and yours.

Jim

Changed pace a little today. Loaded a William Optics Megrez 90, Herschel Wedge and various Barlows with a Pt. Grey Chameleon camera on the iOptron CEM26 mount.

Shot two sessions of 2000 frames of video with a 2x Barlow and created the panorama in the first attachment.

I then swapped out the 2x Barlow for a 5x Barlow, the first time I've ever used 5x magnification on anything, and shot four sessions of 2000 frame of video for the Active Regions (AR) shown in the first attachment and a disturbed region on the right side of the sun.

I've added an Earth to scale to give an idea of the size of these 'sunspots'; huge!

Enjoy!

P.S.: With all this solar activity keep an eye out for Auroras!

Nice details and granularity.
Keep up the nice work.

Really nice shots.
The Albuquerque international balloon fiesta is going on this week and the weather has been less than cooperative.
I have only been able to shoot 4 day events and no evening event due to rain.
One of the wetter fiestas but maybe tomorrow will be better. I was looking forward to imagining a lot of solar but there has not been an opportunity.
Here is one shot from the event on the second day.

Wow, is that about 6 earth diameters in length? Good work.

Closer to 30 earths.
Thank you for your compliment.

Wow that was a big prominence. Great captures.

Thank you very much.
It was one of the tallest that I have seen.

I suspect the previous owner actually dropped the scope. At least the camera attached to the scope was destroyed.

It took me most of the afternoon with Cheshire and laser collimators to get the scope back to reasonable alignment. I finalized the alignment on Vega. It is fortunate my wife is visiting her sister or she might have objected to some of my language when I turned screws the wrong direction and made things worse...

It is rare for a RC scope to ever have the primary mirror go out of alignment. If anything, all that is required is a minor tweak of the secondary. In this case the primary mirror was off by a full turn of the adjustment screws which, of course, seriously impacted the secondary mirror alignment. But it is now back to factory specs and I shot eight targets with it this evening/morning. We'll see how they turn out!?

I'm looking forward to seeing the results of your tweak.
You were getting pretty close with the first set, I've definitely seen worse from my scopes.
Clear skies.

I've been very satisfied with my Lunt 60mm and I assume you have been as well.

Excellent detail in the sunspots and solar granularity.

Thank you very much for the compliment. My white filter shots improved a lot when I went from Baader film to the Lunt Herschel wedge.

Shot in Hydrogen Alpha and learned after the fact that if I had shot it in CaK it might have been twice this size.
I'll take what I can get.
Lunt pressure tuned 60mm solar scope with a Skyris 236M Monochrome CMOS camera.
20 second videos that I stacked the best 100 frames in Autostakkert3.
Final tweaks and color added in Photoshop 2022.
Stay safe...

Currently set up at the annual Alberta Star Party in the Badlands of Alberta by the Red Deer River.

The weather gave us about three hours of clear sky yesterday afternoon before it clouded over for the night. But I did manage to capture some Ha solar video. Shot with a mono Point Grey Chameleon camera, 3x Barlow and Lunt 60 scope on a Celestron Evolution mount. Best frame from 1000 frames of video used in all sessions.

Today is looking very promising with a forecast for clear skies this afternoon and tonight; here's hoping.

Enjoy!

Nice shots. I was hoping that you got the really big monster yesterday. I'm going to post a shot in a separate post. Hoping for clear skies for you.

Thank for commenting. The Sun is always changing and something to be seen with different methods.

Shots of todays sunspots in white filter using a Lunt Herschel wedge on a Lunt 102mm Doublet.
Shot using the Skyris 236M monochrome CMOS video camera.
20 second videos at 30 frames per second on the first shot and 60 frames per second on the final 2 shots.
I processed 50 best frames in Autostakkert3 and clean up in Photoshop 2022.
Stay safe...
