We get them from a guy who catches commercially here in Oregon. They either come out of the river or one of two big lakes here in the state.

BBQ crawdads? hmmmmm or do ya'll just boil 'em and eat 'em
They're done lots of ways but we boil in pickling spice and salt -- throw in some corn on the cob and hold on...

I know people eat some part or other of crawdads - I never have though. Your story explains the song, "you get a line, I'll get a pole, we'll go fishin in the crawdad hole honey baby mine" or however it goes

Every July, my family BBQ gets 40 pounds of crawfish for a big feed! YUM!!
Hi Jay, 40 pounds don't seem like very much, is it 40 edible pounds or just 40 lbs and where do ya'll get 'em
True, but the primary purpose of that hole if FOOD! They poise not far below the water line and wait for something (I.E. and earthworm) to fall or crawl into the hole, then SNAP they grab and gobble it up. As a kid me and my Cousin Steve would tie a wee small piece of hot dog onto a string, plop it down a crawdad hole, and then ease the string up out of the hole. Sure enough more times than not a big ol' crawdad would still be hanging on to that piece of hot dog for dear life. Crawdad tails are good to eat, you know.
