On my old 1970s Kenwood receiver my granddaughters sometimes push the Tape Monitor Source button in and you can still hear another source but I have to crank the volume way up. Now that I'm on to them I always check that and the volume before turning the stereo on.

That is an issue with Raw developers in general. I use ACDSee which doesn't have the horse power of Adobe, what if they go belly up? After developing an image I always export to jpeg ( I've considered dng or tiff which is huge) so I preserve my work in a non propriety format.

Personally, I go big, I don't mess with changing and storing little cards. I'd write raw to cf and jpeg to sd. But that's just what I do. Actually I went on my first cruise recently took my Nikon D7500 which only has a single sd slot. I still went big and I'm not even a big risk taker. Do what you're comfortable with.

I just upgraded after maybe 12 years USB are all backwards compatible as wall as SATA1 ,2 and 3. I have 4 external hard drive 2 SATA drives in an enclosure and they all have power supplies. Only my little potable drive is powered by USB. My new computer sees them all. Cable problems can be intermittent, swap cables.

I experienced 2 downsides. One was already mentioned, I have a printer that Canon no longer supports and Windows 11 wouldn't recognize. However when I installed drivers for my new Canon printer it worked for the older printer as well. So there might be similar workarounds for other older devices. The other is that in some applications like my raw developer / organizer app I can't send an image from inside the app to Affinity Photo and have it launch AP and load the image. Which is very convenient and time saver. I've read of similar problems with other raw developers, but the apps themselves work fine.

You would have to consider two things: the cost of the camera and how many cameras he already has. Men with no interest in photography probably drink a lot and chase after women. The wife of the camera buyer should consider herself lucky.

I like your logic, I'm going start looking at mirrorless and tell my wife she's lucky!

Sometimes the replies are funnier than the post. And to think someone had DE Gaull of doing away with this section. Some days it's the only section I read.

I just had this situation upgraded to cf and sd2 cards for my d850 from xqd and sd1. I bought a usb3 reader that reads both cf and sd2 from Bhphotovideo.com.

I have an older Tokina lens that has a manual aperature ring (it can also be controlled by the camera) but if it's not set manally to its minimum aperature I get an error. Don't know if this will help.

There are a lot of advantages going mirrorless but at least with the Nikon system weight is not one of them. The bodies are somewhat smaller but the weight is in the glass. That's why some are attracted to the 4/3 systems. For long hikes or travel I gererally use Nikon's APC system. I'm heavily invested in the f mount, good bodies and good glass. It's going to be awhile before I bring myself to change.
