While the backdrops and lighting make these better photographs, the capture of the moment makes it look like you're talking to them. Those focused eyes and attentive ears make these dogs very appealing.

We're currently loving and enjoying the care our fourth adopted dog gives us . The mutual support makes these two 70-sometings happy every hour of the day.

Color especially because of the gold headband nailed right onto the top third horizontal.

Merry Christmas Hal. It's so nice to go in any place and see that they respect the real meaning of Christmas. Very nice shots.

Because it, still, is really "Good News!"

Native New Yorker, me, married to a native Washington DC-ite, I never fail to point out that the tree and Mall you have so nicely captured IS the National tree and display. The Cathedral across the street IS, to me, the National Cathedral.

She sniffs and relishes yet another opportunity to ignore me.

Great shots, it is where I learned to Ice Skate, and Rockefeller Center was my favorite "street" photography destination. Thank you!

Merry Christmas,

Here too. An advantage to being military is everyone’s name is on their shirt/jacket. Bummer now that the name and rank are in a camouflaged color on camouflaged uniform. A female may take office at someone looking close to discerne name and rank.

Nice. Reminds me of the one I climbed back in 1955, now long gone, up in Yosemite.

Fred,
I was just sorting the "Inventory" for a large scanning and memory book creation. Found "That" one with my son climbing at 12, over 40 years ago. Yes, the tree is gone, and my son, too, sad to say. But they were beautiful.

Around Elko, NV there are some campgrounds. And Elko is good for a good Steak Dinner. Lamoille Canyon State Park is scenic, but I don't think I'd haul triples past the first Campground. Have a fabulous trip, and be safe.

When I was stationed at Moffett Field in Mountain View CA (1980 - 1986), new housing developments in San Jose were being built

I lived near Moffett Field in '66 (Palo Alto, near the Bayshore Expwy). We loved to see the planes take off and always heard them, night and day, but it never bothered us.

Shudda been there when a C-5A landed at Moffat, back in the '90's. Flew right over my house in Cupertino and it looked like it was travelling at 35MPH. I loved playing Golf at Sunnyvale Muni, the sound buffer for Moffett. We saw the underside details of many P-3 Orion's flying to and from Northern California Pacific ASW missions.

Because of my many East Coast trips and late return flights, I had to switch to SFO as my base because I was too frequently closed out of SJC by the Curfew. Returning home to the airport where my car is parked was my minimal convenience requirement.

The B&W versions stands well on it's own, with the sun masquerading as the moon. This time I like the color version best, because the reality of he sunset's beautiful coloring really makes the Composition more balanced.

Considering what Corn delivers for Iowans 365-1/4 Days a year, that concrete ear certainly deserves the recognition. Really? Concrete ear of corn??? Only in Iowa!

Nice work, Paul. I love the care you used in matching the commentary to the images. You're right, those "backseat" miles seem to have lasted longer in the making, but remain twice as long in the memory.

That’s a little disconcerting to me. I intend to use it indoors. I use BBF in servo because I’m following motion. The AF issue you describe would make it difficult to follow action and maintain focus. :(

Using BBF and AI Servo, following motion is challenging work. At the extra narrow Depth of field at f1.8, focus is easy to miss with a tripod mounted camera and a stationary subject. Clearly hand held sports tracking at such an aperture will be an issue.

I used this lens at a Workshop Photoshoot at a Jaguar Dealer. Plenty of light. It focused on the models' eyes perfectly and separated the background, as desired. But the 18-35mm focal length left little working room for portraits, especially using self posing professional models. Those ladies can, at close range, seem very animated. My takes were good, but MY (not the lens') misses were many.

At 2-1/2 pounds on the end of any but the biggest Pro DSLR's is a balance issue issue. If you're going that heavy, why not find a good used 70-200mm f2,8L. Or lighter, an f4"L" version.

For indoor Gymnastics and Dance, unless you're on the stage, your 18-35mm field of view would require severe cropping to make the athlete or dancer fill the frame. I can't imagine using those focal lengths except for a few entire field or stage "Establishing Shots" where, frankly a 24mm lens would do, or even a $100 f1.8 50mm.

Today's cameras and internal processing software are very good at ISO's well above 3200. Post processing noise control SW is effective, too. I carried a GAS torch for this lens for a while. But, it is a specialized tool in my thinking. My GAS sights are now focused elsewhere.

These are great captures from a vehicle. It is no wonder that so many prominent artists and Photographic artists spent long term "residencies" there. Our fabulous Southwest, so wrongly dubbed a desert wasteland by Eastern" sophisticates" and politicians. And there are so many others like the area including Taos and Santa Fe, NM, Death Valley, CA and NV, Pacific Grove, and so many more.

My response has four (4) question marks (?) to the OP attempting to clarify their post. I'm not mind reading anything ... You've taken their post at face value. We await for confirmation and / or clarification. But, in the meantime, you've attempted to school me on what specifically the OP meant. With that superpower, again, what are you doing here in the mud with us bugs?

Don,
Reflex Cameras have necessarily had focusing screens since they were invented be they large format, 6x6 or 35mm. Your EOS-1V has one for sure. The Nikon F even has a way to detach the prism and use the screen as a waist level or overhead viewfinder. Many higher end SLR's and Dslr's screens are interchangeable. This was a problem on some EOS 5d's and some 5dII's as they aged.

The OP, by my reading, was clear. I appreciate your knowledgeable and helpful replies on this forum. This is a slight window in your understanding. Let's all learn and move on with our reputations intact.

Thanks,
C
