I love Red Canyon. So many great shots are available right from the parking lot and from the short trails nearby. Very close to Bryce but beautiful in it's own right. Nice shots.

I have a z5 and used to have a 16-35 Nikon f4 that worked fine together. There were no problems of any kind.....It worked as well on the z5 as on my D750. The only complaint was that with the FTZ the combination became front heavy and rather bulky. I have since then sold the 16-35 and purchased a Nikon 14-30 f4. It produces photos that are every bit as good as the 16-35, it takes filters on the front just like the 16-35, but since it is designed as a lens for mirrorless it is about half the size and weight of the 16-35/FTZ combo. If you have $1,000 or so (depending on when Nikon runs their promos) it is worth the swap. Plus you should be able to get a pretty good down payment by selling the 16-35. I have no regrets in doing so.

I have made the transition to mirrorless......sold my last AFS lens yesterday. No regrets. I don't think that the mirrorless cameras are better than their dslr counterparts. They are however generally smaller and lighter. And for my shooting (mostly landscapes) I do see an improvement in the lenses. The kit 16-50 on my z50 is an amazing lens, at any price. It rivals some of Nikon's better lenses for sharpness and color rendition. And the 14-30 that I use on my z5 is imho the best super wide Nikon has ever made. The corporate R&D money is in mirrorless. The smart consumer $$$ should follow.

I don't have the Tamron but I do have the Sigma 150-600 which is similar in size and weight. I have mounted it several times on my z50, and except for the feeling like I'm using a 500 pound anchor for a 12 foot aluminum boat, it works fine. As there is no glass in an FTZ there is nothing to cause problems. The combination gave me some pretty good shots of the recent conjunction. Your Tamron may be different but my Sigma paired up well with my z50 right out of the box.

I don't think a mirrorless body is any better than a dslr body. I do think (Nikon anyway) that the lenses are a bit better, but that's probably because they are newer and benefit from newer technologies. I do appreciate that they are generally smaller and lighter, especially when I'm hiking uphill at elevation or when I'm packing my motorcycle for an extended trip. I have two mirrorless bodies and my favorite for both of the aforementioned activities is my tiny z50. With the kit 16-50 lens I don feel I am paying a penalty photo wise and it's definately easier to haul around than the D750 with a 24-70 lens attached,

I still use my DSLRs but have started shifting to mirrorless, not because I think they are better, but because I don't think it will be too long until it gets difficult to buy new lenses for them. The writing is on the wall; the manufacturers are all moving their resources in that direction. Development of nearly all things related to them has taken a back seat, not only money wise, but also in new technologies. I have noticed an improvement in lenses for mirrorless.....they are smaller, lighter, and seem to me to be a bit sharper. The kit 16-50 mm lens included with my z50 is one of my better lenses, and that includes my full frame, nano coated Nikons. So yeah, I somewhat agree. While I don't think the dslr is dead yet, I do believe they've got one foot on the proverbial banana peel.

I use a FTZ on both my z50 and z5. My F mount lenses all work just fine on the mirrorless bodies. As far a whether they enhance the quality.....no. But neither do they take anything away. They are just glassless adapters. The only downside for me is the added size and weight that they add.

The 80-400 D is a pretty good lens, and you can find good used ones for $400 or less. It is reasonably sharp. Auto focus is VERY slow. Found it to be useless for BIF shots. The newer AFS lens is much quicker but is expensive. I would rather (for less money) look at the 200-500 or a Tamron 150-600 G2.

Nikon D7500. It has most of the worthwhile features of the D500 without the price, and unlike the 500 has a built in flash. And since you are budget concious, all of the lenses that work with your 3300 will work just fine on the 7500, unlike a D750 (full frame) or a Z50 (requires a FTZ adapter). I have a D750 & z50 but still love my 7500.

I have 2 of the FTZ adapters and they work fine with all of my newer Nikon as well as 3rd party lenses. The older lenses (Nikon 'D' etc) will work except they will not auto focus.

I have bought a camera body and probably half a dozen lenses from them. Their description of the item's condition has always been spot on. I have a lens on it's way here right now from them. I obviously have no problem buying from them.

You didn't say whether you were using auto or manual focus. In auto focus I almost always use a single, center focus point with this camera. In doing so I have never gotten an even slightly out of focus shot. Try it.

I have several refurbished lenses, mostly from Nikon, but from some of the 3rd party manufacturers as well. I also have bought a few refurbished camera bodies. I have never had a single problem with any of them and they have all appeared 'as new'. One of my camera bodies actually had 2 shutter actuations total and none have had more than a few hundred. I'm guessing that most of the lenses have had a similar experience. With the reliability of gear that we have now I wouldn't worry much about the lack of a long term warranty. The money saved is well worth it. Buy the lens and just be happy with the good deal.
