Hi guys, I was wondering what is the best brand out there for a beginner camera? I have never had my own camera I usually use my friends or the camera from my phone.

Hello young man. Congratulations of picking a hobby that is rewarding and fun and something that you can do at any age. I would look at a used camera with a low shutter count. There are plenty of them out there. The Nikon d90 is a great example. It's a great camera that really get you started and something you could use for a very long time. And it takes great pictures in the right hands. You can easily pick one up for less than $300. KEH and ebay are good places to look. Good luck in your quest and let us know what you decide.

This was way under exposed but I was on IS0 800 and afraid to go higher. This of course is the edited version with the Luminance slider in LR at 65. There's not much time for setup or practice with these kids. I have to try to think fast and sometimes that's not nearly enough. Maybe I should rent a camera and see if there's enough difference in what I'm doing to warrent and upgrade. I would like to get into more fine art photography and have so much to learn. I felt that starting with the best grade of photo would be my first step.

That is an outstanding photo. You captured the magic of the moment perfectly.

Thanks for that...I wanted to say something about it because things like that drive me crazy. That being said, no one is perfect. I shutter to think what the reaction might be...hee hee.

I would be interested in the other speedlight if you haven't sold it.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. Some were quite humorous. I have come to realize that most of UHH members are helpful, intelligent people. I feel rather stupid for thinking that the sd card in question came with my camera...it did not.
Anyway I will continue to read UHH daily as I have learned a lot through the years and had some fun in the process. Keep up the good work Hoggers!
P.S. I will keep you posted if I encounter any more "ghosts" in my machine.

I format it every time I upload pics to my computer.

Thanks LFingar for the humorous anecdotes. That would have been great to see those tourists reactions. Upon further reflection you're right that camera did not come with the sd card, it was one I have been using last few years so no telling where that image came from. The thing is I always reformat my cards after uploading them to the computer but who knows that could have been some leftover glitch that just randomly showed up. It did freak me out though lol.

I'm sure it was not B and H selling me a used camera for a new one. So that was not the case. I still can't figure out how the mysterious stranger appeared on my sd card though.

Upon further reflection I realize that the sd card in question was one I've had for some time. It did not come with the camera. But I can't imagine who this person is or how it got on my card.

I've done that too but this was obviously a staged picture on a man smiling at the camera.

I did check the info about the photo but I didn't realize that it would also contain info about where the photo was taken. I was so freaked out that I immediately deleted it. Probably should have kept it for evidence if need be.
