I just placed an order for the Sony a6000 on Friday with Cameta Camera and am waiting for my new baby. I got 2 lenses, the 16-50 and the zoom 55-250. This is my first venture into the mirrorless gear. I will be traveling in late fall and have come to the realization that I just can't carry the weight of my Canon 60D and the lenses. I will probably be using Auto more then anything else since I don't have a lot of time for learning all the nuances of the camera before my first trip. BTW Cameta was great in helping me to create my own kit rather then purchase one that has stuff I don't need. I worked with Ed and he has the patience of an angel answering all my questions and addressing my concerns.

What a wonderful celebration to share with them. I was asked to photograph annual pow-wow 3 years ago and did. It was a cultural experience I will not forget. The first thing I did was to ask what part of the ceremonies were sacred and if photography was permitted. After meeting with several tribal chiefs I felt better able to do what was expected and to respect the customs of the various tribes. My event was a 2 day event and each day presented different dances and ceremonies. I found that many of the attendees wore original dress and head pieces. The native clothing is beautiful and definitely pieces of art. I found that asking before touching or examining the hand-work rewarded me with more opportunities for photographing then I expected. I also created a dvd with images for them to have and reprint as they needed or wanted. I found the experience very rewarding.rewarding.

Great Idea!!! My camera club had an event titled "Learning from the Masters" The participation was incredible. A list of well know photographers were chosen, samples of their work was displayed, by slideshow, commenting on the aspects that made them great in their field. Participants then choose one of the masters and tried to submit an image displaying the same qualities in their image as the masters had used in their images. It certainly was a lesson in seeing. The participants enjoyed the challenge and those that did not participate learned a great deal. ALP

When I moved up to Digital cameras I created a small info library for myself with 3 x 5 Index cards on the topics I seemed to need help with the most and carried them in my camera bag. I had individual cards on how to change the exposure, ISO, white balance, and other things that I needed frequently and referred to them until it became automatic. We all having different styles of learning and for me tis was most helpful. Just a tip from someone who has been there.

I am looking at buying a Sigma Contemporary DC OS HSM 17 - 70mm lens. I am using kit lenses on my camera but want something sharper. The reviews I have read seem to praise the lens for sharpness. I will be doing Landscape, close-up and may get into some people pictures. The F range is 2.8 - 4. Anyone have any experience with this lens and Sigma?

Anyone use Costco for canvas prints? I usually work with someone else, but have a VERY small order for a canvas print, and got a coupon for $10 off. I know several people like them for standard prints. Anything good/bad about their canvas?

I have used both Costco and EasyPrints. I like the way easyprints finished the edges better then the way Costco finishes them. I have had the need to use return service woth EasyPrint and found their policy and service excellent. I used EasyPrints at Christmas time and was nervous since it was such a busy time but their service and attention was excellent, I also dealt with their customer service and was more then pleased.

My club encourages members to shoot what they are comfortable with. We range from point and shoot to professional full frame enthusiasts. We meet once a month, have monthly slide shows to show off our work and 4 competitions a year. We are PSA affiliated and participate in 2 of their competitions. I was a founding member of the club. We started with 6 interested shooters and grew to a steady membership of 90 - 100 members. Our club is 7 years old and we all enjoy the different aspects of the club. we seem to meet a niche for all our members. A

Wow! This really breaks through some of the fuzzy stuff about the exposure issue. I would like a pdf, haven't figured out how to send you a private message yet.

I try to get to New Orleans about once a year, wish it could be more, I enjoy still life photography and have taken in many of the antique shops. Usually there setups and displays provide great and unusual objects. I always ask before taking out my camera and have not been turned down. Some of the shops do have signs posted and I will observe the rules. I also find the historic houses and plantations are good for providing great still life subject matter. The Royal Street shops have some interesting items, shoes especially.

We are planning a day trip to Charleston,SC. Know some places but would love input from those familiar with historical downtown site but also any thing else of interest.

Thanks in advance

I live about 2 1/2 hours North of Charleston and am a frequent visitor of the city. I always check out the Antique shops. I love still life and have found that many items in the antique shops are great for still life images. Usually things are displayed in a creative manner and I wouldn't find the items to photograph anywhere else. I always ask if photography is permitted and so far have not been turned down. Enjoy the city, you may want to consider Savannah for a future rip also.

I find around 100mm to be a good length to take pictures of people (assuming you're going to want pictures of the grandkids). One thing to keep in mind that I discovered on a cruise is most likely you will have very few power outlets in your cabin. Bring extra charged batteries for your camera.

I have been on many cruises(39) and have found that taking an extension cord and a power strip gives you as many outlets as you need. You can set up a charging station and keep all your electronics charged. Enjoy your cruise.

I also love photographing flowers. Yours is a beauty. I spend the winter buying single flowers at my local florists to keep me going. Thanks for sharing.
