Fabulous set. I just love the Mother and Child Gorilla.

Thank you Corolyn, I was fortunate to get this shot as for the most part mom was holding her baby is such a way that you could on get a partial glimpse of him.

Thanks...I used two lenses...a 25mm f1.4 and a 7.5mm 3.5. Both of which I was using wide open. I'll post a 25mm shot later tonight after I edit them. Obviously the exposure time was a fine balance between my aperture and ISO. I tried to keep the ISO as low as possible as with m4/3 it can get quite noisy above 800 ISO. That said I found anywhere from 30-60 seconds worked the best...it just depended on how busy the aurora was at that given moment. I probably should have used the live bulb feature (to get live, realtime results), but I was being lazy and didn't feel like connecting with wifi or with a remote (you need to press the shutter to start and stop the exposure).

A red flashlight would have been more handy than my iphone screen.

Beautiful images, I would love to be able to get shots of the northern lights someday. Have you tried using the 'Live Composition' mode on the E-M1. It would work well in situations like this and you probably could have gotten away with using a lower ISO.

Just returned from a trip to Jacksonville Florida. Visited the zoo and even though had to shoot through fences or glass to get the shot, managed to get a few decent pics. It's a beautiful zoo, if you're ever in the area I highly recommend visiting. The 1st image is the only one not shot through a fence or glass.

This would be a first for a m4/3 to demand a price that high. To date, the 40-150 is the most expensive lens that oly or pana makes, right? (Not including 4/3 lenses).

Yes, but the quality of the lenses keep improving and with higher quality comes higher prices. With that said, I still feel the Olympus 75mm 1.8 produces the sharpest image of all their lenses and it's "Only" $900 (recently on sale for $800)

My best guess is that the 300mm with run 1699 at a bare minimum. I'm afraid to see what the 7-14 is going to set me back. I'm hoping it's no more than the 12-40.

I hope you're right about the price, I anticipate anywhere from $2000 to $2500, for the 300mm.

Buy an emc14 for a bit more reach.

Thought about it, but that makes it a 210mm F4 and the 300mm F4 is due out probably around Nov-Dec. Think I'll wait and see how they will price the 300mm, might not be that much more than 150mm + emc14.

[quote=RiverNan]looks good. do you need to use a tripod for that lens?[/quote

These shots were all handheld. Lens has some weight but not really heavy, but will want to use 2 hands, not 1.
Would need tripod more to compensate for a slow shutter speed rather than to handle weight of lens.

Borrowed a friends new lens, Olympus 40-150mm F/2.8, wish it had more reach but otherwise, very impressed.

Spring has arrived in Pennsylvania, greeting us with six inches of snow . . . these are not the photos I was expecting to capture during the 1st weekend of Spring. Suddenly it feels like Christmas is around the corner
