Some time you get more than you were looking for. I was trying to capture rain drops on some early spring flowers. What I wasn't looking for were the images in the rain drops.

I have been shooting more wildlife now that I live in an area abundant with life. I get so excited with every shot I take until I get home and download. I can not seem to get the eyes as the focus point no matter how hard I try. I began to think my lens is not focusing properly. I found a template for a focus test and decided to give it a try. Please look at these three shots and help me determine if my lens' autofocus is operating properly.
These are straight from the camera.
The ruler at the side of the template is at 45 degrees. My camera is on a tripod at the exact height of the center of the template.

Ok so I have a Canon 7D. I need to purchase a couple of new or backup batteries for it. Now I'm thinking that their are only a couple or so manufactures that make batteries in the world. So the question is other than price is there really ant difference in batteries. I see the one I need from $16.00- $80.00 for what looks like the same batterie. What is your guys input on this? I can buy 5 of one kind for the price of 1 of the others. Thanks for your thoughts.

David, some years ago(more than I care to remember) I was stationed at Fort Leavenworth, KS while going to school. Leavenworth had a battery factory and through a connection I was able to pick up an automotive battery direct from the factory. When I picked it up I was given a tour of the factory where I was able to watch a battery being built from start to finish. As we came to the end of the line there was a position that put stickers on the batteries. At that position there were maybe 10 different brand stickers. All the same batteries just different stickers. I have always bought off brand batteries after that with no problems.

EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM and EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II Lens. These come with 70D. I have the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS and EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS, that are approx 4 yrs old. The only difference is the STM. This is more for video, I think. Is it worth getting the new ones?

If you are taking video you want the STM lense. That takes advantage of the dual pixel of the 70d when it focuses. Almost silent.

Thanks, I sometimes wounder if using all points to focus would result in a depth of field that would put everything in focus. But to do that it would have to slow down the shutter speed to the point the movement would not be in focus. I guess I just need to continue with what I'm doing and hope for the best.

First photo was taken in the spring in Nebraska. I had seen the hawk go to ground and watched its behavior. When it took to flight I didn't notice it had the ground squirrel in its talon. Some 4 months latter I got another chance and captured photo 2. I try to shoot always in av priority with only a single center focus point. I would like some feed back on the pros and cons of using the single focus point. Photo 1 Canon 50D 100-400mm 1:4.5-5.6 L IS. Shot at f5.6. ISO 320, 340mm. Photo 2 Canon 50D 100-400mm 1:4.5-5.6 L IS. Shot at f11. ISO 3200, 400mm.

Bill, this is rather old school but Ansel Adams wrote 3 how to books, the Camera, the Negative and the Print. While these all delt with black and white film cameras I think all of the information is sound basic information that still applies today. The books are short good reads.
