I have done some internet searching, sometimes I find this challenging, you might find these interesting or maybe you have already been there. The first link is included in the second. But I pulled out the first cause it is more relevant and the rest of it is well just really interesting if you like old stuff. Hope this helps

My bad, hitting the caps at the beginning of sentence, yes all lower case on the msconfig, sorry missed that. Thanks for giving him the detailed directions, was leaving that to chance hoping for the best.

Click on "Start" then click "Run". In the space provided type in: msconfig (all lower case). On the page that pops up click the Startup tab. This will bring up a list of all the programs that boot up with your computer. Most are not needed. Uncheck the ones you don't want, such as Microsoft Office and other such programs and then click apply. You will have to do a restart and a pop-up screen will come up telling you you modified the start-up. Click the "Don't Show Again" box and you are good to go. The programs you checked off will still run just fine when you need them, but they will not start up and run in the background, using resources, everytime you start the computer. You will be surprised how many there are. Caution: Do not get curious about the other tabs on the msconfig page. You can cause yourself a lot of headaches. You can't do much harm on the Startup page. Windows even gives you the option to Select All, but that's not a good idea generally. PM me if you have questions.

I second the Norton removal, have had to fix many software level problems due to Norton, too many free options out there that do not cost anything. But off topic a little. Lots of good options for the OP. They all in their own right can speed you up a fraction, of course the reformat being the one that gets the more bang.
I would go for the cheap and effective route first but that is me, Msconfig and shutdown some of your startups like was already suggested. Leave the microsoft stuff alone. And if your main drive is nearly full, you definitely will want to offload some to another drive, I have seen computers slow down when at the threshhold. I have not looked up your laptop but does it have the option for another internal drive? This might be an option, and easy to install. I know one Dv7 I was working on had a main hdd and a slave hdd. Although 6gb ram is great, you can always use more, I always ask, it was fast when you first got it right? For picture editing my desktop machine is running 16gb and a 6 core amd. Should of went 32gb. But it was fast when I first built it.
You also might want to run a good registry cleaner/defragmenter and also after you move out some files from your main drive that you can archive defrag the drive, it might not need it but check anyhow. CC cleaner works well for all of this, it sets a backup of your registry in case something goes terribly wrong you can put it back. There are so many preferences as to what cleaner to use, but a fragmented registry will slow you way down. If you are not comfortable then by all means do not do this, even though it is pretty straightforward.

I would have used a tripod and set the shutter slower to 1/50 and the f-stop at f-11. I prefer all of the flower in focus. The background can be blurry. David

I understand, should try different techniques, yes the DoF on that is quite shallow and being that I was zoomed in...I get it! playing it in my head now I will remember that Thank You
Man and I was using a tripod anyhow so could have done that..coulda/woulda/shoulda now the blooms are all gone.
thanks for the tip

Beautiful shot, Bob, especially the second one!

Thank You
and the second one is one I was discounting and I am not sure why mainly because of comp being low if remember correctly
everyone is changing my mind on it now. You guys are good for the soul here and I was hesitant about putting anything up

There is website caked "Dark Sky Finder" that is very helpful.

Really!! will have to check that out, I already use programs to figure out when is the best times as far as moon phase and such but have not messed with it for awhile. The last time it was about 20 degrees out and I just wanted to find out how much light there really was in my town...horrible and we have a dark town.
thank you for the name of program

Yes it is a good size zoo. Takes about 3 hours to see everything. They also have the skyride the safari train. And the zip line for the younger crowd or the very fit. Of wich I am neither  . The colors do not look right on my monitor but I guess on the download they look ok. Time for a new monitor. Thank you for the comment. Come up and visit you will not be dissapointed.

Thanks for the info on the zoo, sounds like a good overnight or weekend trip for us, I know there are other things to do in the area as well, our local photo club has done a meetup in Richmond and made some great images.
On your photos I personally liked the cooler temperature but that was my preference, yes maybe it could have been enhanced a bit for some color/ clarity/ sharpness and such but I like your original better, will I get in trouble here for saying that.

Thanks for the comments. As for my camera, it still has the IR filter, but it has a filter that allows more of the deep red to pass. Any camera can do Milky Way shots, you just need dark skies and about 30 sec exposures. Not hard at all! If you have really dark skies, and some sort of tracking device, you can go longer...

thanks, it is the dark skies I have to search out, I live near the Blue Ridge Parkway I need to get up there sometime and spend the night or part of. Thanks for the info on the camera was curious what the difference was.

#7 I wonder what he is thinking? Nice capture. Is this a big zoo, in Roanoke we just have a little zoo that we try to support but would be nice to go to a nicer one.

Beautiful work, well only work if you do not enjoy it. Does the Da version make it any easier to make images of say the Milky Way? I believe the difference is the IR filter over the sensor is that correct. Just curious I know people make images of the galaxy with standard bodies, I myself have not been to a place dark enough yet to do so. But loved your shots
