I'm headed to Hawaii next week and thought I would take the trinity of lenses (14-24, 24-70, 70-200) with my Nikon D810. Any recommendations on a backpack just large enough to hold them within the Hawaiian airline limits? My focus will be on Maui and Kauai, so suggestions re the "must sees" are also welcome!

Thanks for these! I grew up there and rarely missed a sunrise but not high enough for a sunset!

Doing the family vacation in mid-September in Maine. We have the place in Surry off Newburry Neck Road and now looking to fill in the time slots with photography venues. I understand there are a lot of hiking trails in the area - any great ones ? Also looking for good shore areas with wilderness or lighthouses. Have aging in-laws coming with us so need to find some accessible places to take them which are also photogenic. Will be splitting time being a tourist and being a photographer but wouldn't mind being a tourist in a place where there are great photo ops. The less accessible locations will probably be just be me alone or with my triathlete wife. Any suggestions from Linda or others ?

Also, is this a dark sky area ? Seems to be in general but not sure specifically in/around Surry. Would love to do some astro-photography with a working lighthouse.

Thanks in advance.

Doing the family vacation in mid-September in Main... (show quote)

Hi Ken,
I am a long-standing Maine lover and one of the places I stayed was near where you're going: Surry off Newbury Neck Road. You have great sunrises there. Mt. Desert with Acadia National Park is the unlimited possibilities place, and Schoodic Peninsula, which is still part of Acadia, is also not to be missed. Hiking trails everywhere. You can drive to the top of Mt. Cadillac for a panoramic view of everything. Enjoy!!

It was a big leap when I finally gave in to the GAS and got my D810, but I love it and am very happy I made the purchase! Enjoy!!

If you make it all the way to Acadia, don't forget Schoodic Peninsula in addition to Mt. Desert!! Great place for picnics as well as pix!!

If someone offered the equivalent lenses and camera body (same age, same condition) of a different brand (you chose the brand) would you trade? Why or why not.

If I'd thought something else was equivalent to what I was going to purchase, there'd be no point unless money was saved. Equivalent and different brand are antonyms, irreconcilable. At any rate, No I would not change because I love my D810 and have enough learning to do to last me a lifetime! -:)

I bought the Tamron 150-600 back in March and use it on a D7000. Here is a link to many photos I've taken with it. It meets your budget nicely.
