If you like to read about the civil war it's worth looking into the construction of the fort.

John Adams, one of our Founding Fathers, said . . If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. I didn't determine anything; geologists (a.k.a. 'objective science') did. I only mentioned that fact as a structural means of displaying the passage of time. I didn't mention the first half-billion years because I was so very young at the time --just a little nipper, really-- so I don't remember it terribly well. Except that then, where I happen to be standing --or sitting, actually (in present day Ootah)-- was located roughly on the Earth's equator at the time. As regards the last thousand years, there have been three (3) periods of drought, but rest assured, this land has not been under water --other than the occasional

No one, including my son who is a geologist, will ever convince me that a specific event occurred an exact number of times during the last half-billion nor the first half-billion years, no matter how old you were then.
Hope you never have to stay under water longer than about 2 minutes.

People of the Archaic lived in and passed through these regions several thousands of years ago. They left their inscriptions on the rocks in a handful of places, and this is but one.
Twenty-six times in the last half-billion years, this land was under water. Between those times, the waters receded and sands blew in and sands blew out, adding to and subtracting from the layers of rock that ultimately formed, and are now exposed in the vast anticline we call the San Rafael Swell. Washes, intermittent and perennial streams, and even a few rivers erode the rock, and in places great canyons form. And this is but one.

Very nice pictures!
But how did you determine the land was under water 26 times in the last half-billion years? Could not the land have been under water more or less than 26 times in the first half-billion years or maybe within the last thousand years?

There are similarities, Ron, but the Pacific Pea is western and the mystery plant is in the Caribbean, plus there's just one bloom per stalk and those horizontal pods are a hoot... Instead, it appears to be, "Rattleweed" (crotalaria Retusa), an invasive and not very nice plant. Never seen it before... and don't like it much... dang sure won't eat it- though, apparently some folks do...
Good info on the "APP" Ron, THANKS!!
Yep, you're correct. Think I will give my cell phone one last chance to correctly identify a plant . . . if it fails I will get a new "APP"
