Your Right I have the 500PF and the D850 for over a year now and it has got me more keepers but... have you tried it with the 1.4 extender.... SUCKS

The 500PF is not on Nikon's compatibility list for any of their teleconverters. I guess you inadvertently proved it. Sorry.

I drool when thinking about that lens (especially when reading . I'm still lugging around my 200-500 with my D850. I love that lens, but it gets very heavy by the end of the day.

I am a retired pastor. I was fortunate to have a fine education. I had a dearly loved high school English teacher who was a stickler for grammar. She would fail any submission that contained a split infinitive. After 4 years of college and 4 of grad school, I figured I was pretty well prepared. My volunteer secretary for the first small church I served was a professional copy editor. I learned more from her than from anyone. That was a true gift.

My personal pet peeve is the current trend to confuse "then" and "than."

I shoot mostly birds and wildlife and that's what I bought it for. It does take fewer fps than my D500, but I don't find it a problem with BIF. I use the Nikkor 200-500mm for the most of my shooting. Images seem to be more detailed .with the 850. It is an amazing camera. For landscapes, it should be fantastic. The focus stacking function alone should serve you well.

Given the current political climate and the number of whack-jobs out there who are armed, I think you were lucky that is all that happened. If it were me, for my safety, the security of my car and, most importantly, the safety of my dogs, I'd remove that magnet. Best not to goad those who may very well be looking for an excuse to commit a violent act.

I use buckwheat hulls that I ordered from Amazon. Natural product that doesn't negatively impact the environment like plastic or styrofoam. Very light, as well. They offer very good support.

Amazing. It's like you set up a studio and wait for them to pose for you. You end up with jewels.

You have a great camera for what you are doing. Your pictures prove it - nice job. If you do not have the battery grip with the advanced battery (and the necessary charger), you might consider it. It will give you 2 more frames per second, which may not sound like much, but means a lot for birds in flight. Mark Smith's setup will help as mentioned above. I would also recommend Steve Perry's ebook on focusing. Above all you will find that using back button focusing will be a big help. Perry is great in that regard and will walk you through the whole focusing system of your camera.

Your buffer fills quickly because of the huge picture files of the D850. You can reduce the size of the files by using the crop feature or by shooting with less quality, but the larger files have many advantages. The D500 would give you more buffer (for one thing the files are a lot smaller) and more frames per second, but you should be able to do very well with what you have.

You have selected a difficult type of photography, but it will be very rewarding, too and you have gotten a great start. Best of luck to you.

I rented the G1 (for Nikon) and was pleased with it overall so I purchased one. I was never happy with the one I purchased and finally gave up on it. The autofocus was slow and sometimes did not work at all. It was not sharp past 500mm. I gave up on it. My suggestion is that if you get a Tamron, use it a lot while you can still return it, if need be.

He did have a great voice. Of course, I'll never forget Ed Ames teaching Johnny Carson to throw a tomahawk.
