I am considering setting up a new photography website using Smugmug and a domain name through GoDaddy. I am looking at the Smugmug Pro account at $150 per year and $9.95 per year for the domain name. I am curious if any UHH members are using Smugmug Pro and how successful have you been. Pros and cons? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

GoDaddy~ Great Company. I've been using them for 5-6 years.
Excellent 5 star company. Great Customer Service if or when you need them...
A lot of my photo friends use Smugmug and have for some time. They all seem to be quite happy.

I would love for my father-in-law to see some of the holiday photos of his daughter and grandchild. I have tried copying some to a DVD disc and taking them over to play but his equipment will not run the DVD. He cannot drive, (92 years old)so we travel some distance monthly to see him.

What do you recommend?

If it is only for displaying pictures, I strongly recommend a 10-12 inch digital picture frame. I did this for my 91 year old Mom, and she loves it! I use an 8GB card, and send her a new card every once in a while. I'm pretty sure any size card would work. But 1 8GB card holds A LOT OF PICTURES! 2250 on the card I sent her last time. And this is a lot cheaper.
My Wife and I each have one set up going with our pictures, on them...
Just my 2ยข worth!

What is it that you guys gain from all of the stuff you drag around as opposed to my new Sony P&S with the advanced electronics? I certainly don't get it, but I'm sure that you are about to bitch at me about the old school stuff.===>

What setting do you use to photograph fireworks?

This year was my best year for my luck at fireworks.
I had Double 40D's mounted on tripods, a 28-70mm L & a 10-22mm on the other, both with Cable releases. ISO was 100, F14, 3-6 seconds exposure.
Manual Focus set to infinity

These were images I took after receiving my lens back from Canon after they adjusted focus. Should have included them before.

"The best camera is the one you have with you" - Jay Maisel
Did anyone ever ask Jackson Pollock what brand of brush/stick, or paint he used? All that matters is the end result.
I suspect you could give any of the 'Masters', a camera we feel is beneath us, and they would come back with images that would put us to shame.

So true and so well said. I think this is a definitive answer for many camera & gear questions or issues.

It was my second lens. Originally I thought it was ok. At a point, Canon wanted me to send one of me lenses back my camera to check my camera's focusing. They did an adjustment to the lens as well as the camera, and when it came back, it was stellar! But I don't use it as much now as I used to, because of other newer lens purchases. 70-200/F4, 400mm/5.6 (LOVE this lens), and a 100-400 e.5-5.6.

I am kicking around the idea of a Macro lens. Looking at Canon 100m 2.8 also Tamron 90m 2.8. Been reading reviews for weeks. Anyone used either?
I will be using it on Canon 30D & 50D cameras and will probably end up taking mostly portraits. Altho, I will be doing some Macro. I have lenses that go mac, but do want a Mac only! thanks

I have a Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro and love it. I use it for jewelry, portrait and anything that requires close up work.

Pictures are worth a thousand words... I won't even post mine.
This was my first lens with my 40D, 3 years ago. And I still love it! Its a very fine quality lens.
Enjoy!

I regularly shoot in two Butterfly Pavilions in Los Angeles County. I use only my 105-mm macro lens, with an O-Flash attachment on my speedlight. My typical setting at ISO 400 is 1/200-sec at f/16. Here are a few images.

Very nice... ! I sure wish the one near us would let us use flash. I for sure would have had a lot more keepers!
Beautiful shots!

Fun Fun Fun! One of my favorite kinds of shoots! I love hood ornaments. I'm often laying on the ground so dress appropriately. Knee pads are good! I love my wides angle lens a 10-22mm, and my 400mm. It really isolates a hood ornament and gives a beautiful soft surrounding boarder. Enjoy!

This is what I'm saying about using my 400mm. The beautiful Blue is someone walking behind it a few feet with a blue shirt/jacket on.

Hi gang
I need advice on what lens to use tomorrow. I am chaperoning (sp) my daughters girl scout troop on a trip to the butterfly place in Westford MA. I won't have a lot of time to be swapping out different lens'. I have a 50mm, 18-55 and 55-200. I want to leave just one on there. What would be my best bet? The 50mm?

I went to a Butterfly place in Salem Oregon last fall, and I mostly used my 100mm 2.8, and my 70-200mm f4. They did not allow you to use tripods/mono-pods, or Flash, so everything had to be hand held. and Light lighting was varied. VERY Challenging, but was an amazing event.
Have fun!
