Okay, no problem. I guess the strip is crime free, the media and metro make it all up and the crime scenes I cover for the news are actually figments of my imagination. And apparently your friends and family either don't watch local news or write it off as fiction. And if you google and find the crime rates up here in Vegas then google must be wrong too. We're all wrong here... the media, the police, the funerals are staged (I feel for the family members of the victims in those cases)... we're all wrong here and you're the only one who has it all correct. Okay, with that I have a life to live. I'm out. Done.

You're pretty good being able to know all the way from PA what's currently happening here in Las Vegas. Why on earth would the media attempt to hype crime and hurt potential tourism. If anything, the local media here attempts to play down anything that might possibly hurt tourism here in Las Vegas. So in this case not only does the media reflect the truth about the spike in crime on the strip, so do the local police reports. Not only do I get my crime stats from the police since I work side by side with them on a daily basis (I cover the crime beat), I also have family members who are cops on the local police force. So my information îs fact, not speculation. But hey, since you're so positive you know more about the actual real crime going on here in Las Vegas go ahead and walk the strip with your expensive gear. I wish you well. In the meantime try googling local news here in Las Vegas, you can bring up the video as aired here on the local stations.

Las Vegas is a great city with a lot to offer. The crime here however has really spiked as of late... homicides, robberies, home invasions, etc., and the "strip" crime has prompted more intense police patrol in an attempt to protect tourists.

My intent here was only to respond to the OP with some factual information from someone who actuatlly lives here in Las Vegas and who actually works the streets of this city as a TV journalist, along side with the local police.

I live here in Vegas, have for 26 years. I'm a TV news photojournalist and trust me when I say this… the strip in just the past year and a half has become a completely different scenario. Crime has suddenly skyrocketed! So much so now Las Vegas Metro Police have added a number of officers to patrol on horseback to assist the bicycle, motorcycle and car patrols. Thefts, robberies to tourists, drugs, hookers have spiked in numbers and it is NOT safe any longer. The crime rate on the strip has become a repeated lead story on all the local news stations. Seems the precursor to this was the ever expanding number of street performers which are everywhere on the strip. Along with this came the thugs. I kid you not. I'm not in any way trying to discourage anyone from visiting the Las Vegas strip but if you walk around with even a smartphone that isn't hidden in your pocket or purse you stand a big chance of having it snatched right out of your hand, so what do you think your chances of hanging on to a nice DSLR would be? As I said, I live here and will no longer go to the strip with any of my gear. If I ever do again it won't be without at least two big burly scary looking friends acting as extra eyes and personal security for me. I used to do a lot of model shoots and some wedding formals on the strip, not anymore. Nearby, Red Rock Canyon or Calico Basin, Mt. Charleston, Valley of Fire are a few good spots and in most instances very safe and they all provide for some very amazing photo ops.

I have that lens. Use it on a D7100. It is superb. They do occassionally come up on ebay. Don't know of anyone who has it new, but it is well worth searching for. Hope you find one.

Thanks. I hope I find one too. I've been searching, still searching. If you ever decide to sell yours please think of me.

If the newer one with OS was anything like the first version, it will be a doozy!
We have 2 of the older versions at work and it is amazingly sharp and compact.
Perfect when paired with Nikon's 17-55 2.8 and a DX camera.
Good luck with finding one.
I'll keep an eye out.

Actually, from all the reviews I've read on the one with OS, which is the one I'm looking for (now discontinued) it has better glass and is sharper than the two previous versions. I called Sigma again and they finally told me that as fantastic as this lens is the plain simple truth is they weren't selling enough of them to warrant the floor space at the factory so they decided to retool that room for manufacturing other Sigma lenses that sell in higher volume. And they are not planning a replacement for the 50-150 f2.8 lens. Well, actually they did say, and I quote here "we're replacing the 50-150 with a 150-600". What?!? A 150-600 is a replacement for the 50-150? Makes NO sense to me.

What a bummer :(

Thank you, but those two are for Canon, unless I'm missing one for Nikon. I'm looking for that lens for a Nikon. D7100 to be exact.

Thanks for the link, but there was one listed and it's for Canon, I need one for Nikon. Also it must be the latest version of the lens, the one with the OS (Optical Stabilization). Specifically its the APO 50-150mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM lens for Nikon, with OS being the key factor... it not only has the stabilization, it also has better glass and much faster AF. I do appreciate your reply though.

You may want to try eBay. This is what I have done with success (out of print sheet music) I did a search and when it came up with no matches I bookmarked the search and just ran it every few days until what I wanted came up. - Dave

Good idea, I'll give it a try. Thanx Dave.

I appreciate your reply, however the one listed in your link isn't the OS version, it's the older version and does not have the image stabilization. There were three versions of the Sigma 50-150 lens. The specific one I'm looking for is the APO 50-150 f2.8 EX DC OS HSM. From reviews I've read, not only does this version have the OS it also has better glass, is sharper and an overall better lens.

I'm looking for the Sigma 50-150 2.8 OS lens. Specfically it is Sigma "APO 50-150mm f2.8 EX DC OS HSM"

Sigma discontinued this lens, unknown why, but it's the perfect answer to a 70-200 for an APS-C camera such as my D7100. I can't find this lens anywhere, B&H, Adorama, nowhere, it's just no longer available. The reviews on this lens are amazing so I don't understand WHY Sigma discontinued it. I called Sigma, they told me they are not planning a replacement for this lens and their rep also told me they don't know why they discontinued this lens, which I find odd.

Any info on this lens such as WHY it was discontinued or WHERE I can find one would be greatly appreciated.
