I got a new computer to replace my 12-year-old Dell. I have several photo programs that I would like on the new computer.
Many were installed from downloads, not discs. I have not removed any of the updates,
but knowing how to use them now is doubtful. And getting them new is too expensive.
I use about 3 of them and wonder if I can move them. Does it make a difference if I now have Windows 11 instead of 10? I'm not doing as much as I used to but like my processing to remain good? I'm now 90 years old. I think I got my first camera when I was 12, an Ansco 620.
I've read all the replies here and maybe renting would work? I would appreciate your comments.
I have used Acronics for about 10 years. About 3 years into using it I had total failure of my computer but was able to restore quickly. This year I had some problems with it and their tech called me 3 times until we felt it was working right. It ended up being a bad USB cable between computer and backup drive. It seemed to work sometimes but not all the time.
I was told by a tech that Canon printheads have a heater in them to make the ink dry quickly. When it goes out it changes the resistance of the circuit which causes the blink. It is not repairable.
I have done about 15 books and used many different companies and not disliked any of them. Some years ago I did 2 books for grandchildren graduating from highschool. Did these with Blurb. They were excellent but cost more than others. My last one was done using a program called My Memories. This book was about a real person but I made them all animals in a ferry tail. Had just a few photod.Fun project.
I'm not used to quoting GB and TB and got a little mixed up. This is what I have:
19,000 Documents @ 407 GB
55,000 Photos @ 209 GB
30 downloads @ 30 GB
? on desktop @ 15 GB
Total these items: 661 GB.
My C drive has used 869 GB.
My last full backup was 360 GB.
I'm not 86 years old and started taking pictures when I was 12 and still have some of them.
I have 4 adult children, 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.
Takes a lot of pictures of these to keep the family happy.
On documents, I was a writer and manager of TechWriters by occupation for 36 Years and did write a number of technical books. That is where all of this came from.

I used a passport for about 3 years and it failed. I then went to a WD 2TB usb 2 drive. Worked well but not big enough for me now. I just change to a WD 6 TB usb 3 drive. I did not time the difference in speed but it seemed to be about half. In addition, I do a full backup of my computer once a week that is about 400 TB.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong? I'll try again. OK I can see my photo above this reply. It says Download below the photo. It's not really that good.
Done again so you can see the original

I worked on an old photo somewhat like this, spending about 30 hours on it. I wanted to see the faces better and had many faces to redo. I only worked on this for about 15 minutes. I could have worked longer, starting over, but this improved the faces.
I want to buy a new larger hard drive, 6-12 gig. Where is the best place to buy them these days??
