6 years later, it is no longer the largest. BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Robbinsville, NJ is second only to Angkor Wat. It was dedicated spring 2023 and open to the public.

Shopping around and researching used cameras for teen & adult family portraits.
I currently do just fine with an LX7 when shooting smaller grandchildren who do not feel uncomfortable with the camera and myself being so close.

Thanks, Ken

I have Canon bodies, and also, most of my lenses. I do have the Tamron 200-500, which is great. However, I buy many of my lenses directly from Canon refurbished. These are not field used, but may have been a display model. They are overhauled and look like NIB. They are cheaper than B&H, and come with a full year warranty. I am sure other manufacturers do the same thing. Look there first.
If you look at KEH or MPB, their ratings generally underestimate the lens. What they call very good, I would call excellent. Good luck.

Thanks. I thought the price was excellent. Now I have to find myself a swinging deal on a real tripod. Lol. I thought I had a good one. Get my second shot the 20th. Off to the camera store instead of online lol.

Go on line for reviews. Check prices on Amazon, BHPhoto and Adorama. Then go to the store and see if they will match your best price. I will buy local for 10% difference, just to support small business, but when the price is 50% higher in the store, the 2 companies are very reliable.

Thanks for that information. Where did you find 15 second exposure? I have searched and cannot find how to get that? Thanks for the forecast information.

Rotate knob to M(anual) and rotate control wheel to change speed

The SX50 is a digital camera not a film camera. There is no shutter control that I can find.

There is a manual setting that allows control of shutter speed and f/stop, as well as iso

Usually not IN Phila. Too much light pollution. You can get nearly dark skies in nearby S. Jersey

I don't know the SX50.
Oops...old film camera??? The SX50 is a film camera?

The SX50 is a Canon Bridge Camera. It is digital, ttl, but it has a zoom lens like a pocket camera. However, it will zoom from 24mm to 1200mm. It can shoot in full auto or manual, Aperture or speed. It also has auto settings for portrait, night, sports, etc.

Looking for some suggestions. I'll be in Fairbanks and doing a tour of the Arctic Circle hoping to see the Northern Lights Aurora Borealis in a few days. I have a Canon SX50 HS, and can't find any modes where I can take a long exposure. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get a good photo of the Northern Lights with an SX50? My cell phone is an iPhone 6 SE which doesn't seem to be able to adjust ISO and time exposure either. Open to any suggestions. Thanks

The SX50 on manual will extend time to 15 seconds and iso up to 6400. I would suggest you use between 4-6 seconds at iso highest. I think it is automatically maxed at 80 over 1 second. You will have to experiment. Tripod is a must. Turn off AWB and stabilization. Zoom the lens into wide angle. And, yes, shoot in RAW. Take pictures even if the image you see is not spectacular. I learned from a commercial photographer in Talkeetna, that the camera will see more than your eye. I saw a few greens and one streak of yellow. The camera saw this. (5 sec, f/5.6 iso 3200, Canon T3i, 28mm)

Depending on the effect you want, increase the depth of field by using either manual or Aperture priority and used a higher f/setting. Depending on the lighting, you may have to increase the ISO. Also, use single spot focus.

Use the 28-80mm lens. Zoom to about 80mm. Try to get as close as you can.

Most zoom lenses lose some definition at the extremes of the lens. If you are going to use a lens, use a prime. If you use the zoom, don't go above 70mm. My personal preference is a flatbed scanner. They are not that expensive and have any uses.

For lenses or other accessories, I use B&H and Adaorama. I also check Canon refurbish site. The prices vary, but refurbished lenses function like new. I have several.
If you can afford it, L lenses are better but they cost more. Until your skills exceed your equipment, you may not want to spend that much.
For post processing, you can download a decent program from Canon. (Google "Canon downloads") It is free, but you will need your camera serial number to activate.

Not going to name a company (one of the good guys supposedly) but here’s what happened, the below is the email I just sent them. The demo is $100 cheaper than new just to clarify that part. Would you be ok keeping it since they did automatically lower the price?

Received my order and I have to say I was surprised to of ask for a brand new lens and I specifically said I wanted new due to warranty and resale value and at that time I was charged for new on my CC. The next day I noticed that order was canceled and a new order was generated which I didn’t really understand then I noticed a lower amount was charged to my CC (was charged full price originally) and today I received a used lens in bubble wrap, no box or warranty card which means no warranty and resale value drops a lot.

Not happy about that but I will just keep it and hope it has no issues as I’m sure Canon won’t honor any warranty. This is sad to of had an order just canceled and switched with no communication with me. Lesson learned on my end as I really thought I was dealing with a company that has a great reputation. Oh well! I did attach a PDF of what my original order was before it was changed.
Not going to name a company (one of the good guys ... (show quote)

Please name the culprit. They live or die on their reputation. They either provide the ordered item at the original price, or tell them you will post the results on UH. Be careful to sick to facts and not express opinion. That is what gets people sued.
For the original price you can get a the lens in IS II. It is refurbished with a full Canon warranty. I buy many lenses through Canon refurbished. Here is the link. If you want it, move quickly because their selection changes often and is limited.

If the problem cannot be identified as a card problem, or cable problem, there are several option in the computer. Defrag has been mentioned. Also check the size of temp files and prefetch. Footprints will slow the computer.
Are they all using RAW or JPG or both? That will impact size of file transfers. If previous students are not clearing the card, the next student may be downloading more files than their own. I agree they should cut & paste, the format card in the camera. You need to narrow down the possibilities to just one or 2 variable. Good luck.

I'm not interested in a subscription. I don't do enough to make it worth while. Since Lightroom is no longer available as a stand alone, and I can't update my original (ver 5) I am looking for options.
