Thanks Bob, you are correct, we use 2TB Samsung T7’s for backup.

Safe computing, I also have a 10 disk Synology in a raid 5 configuration, I think our data is pretty safe.

I used to run a data centre, daily backups on-site,weekly backups offsite, all drives were mirrored, we never lost a thing

Just bought my wife a new laptop, it was a MacBook Pro M3 with 16gb memory and a 2TB ssd.

The reason we went with a 2TB drive is she does not want external drives except for backup, whenever she picks up her laptop she wants all her files, photos, documents everything to be immediately accessible. She does not want to hunt around for the dongle and the attached external drives to look at a picture or whatever. Her choice, she loves it and is extremely happy, the M3 Macbook Air dropped a week or two after we got the Pro but really doesn't cost much more with the same specs.

And yes as always, Apple is a complete ripoff with the price they charge for the upgrade to 2TB.

Because we both use Macs, we were tied to the Mac OS, if you are more comfortable with Windows platform there are lots out there.

A Mac with 16gb memory is sufficient due to the way it is employed, I would go to 32GB (minimum)on a Windows machine for memory and the same size SSD for storage.

I have used Dells and Lenovo's for work but never used them for LR and PS but they have been very reliable laptops and change them every 3 years

For the most part I no longer take cash when selling or buying things. I ask them to do an Interac cash transfer, money is in your bank account within 30 seconds, you know it's the right amount and if you are dealing with any dubious characters there is no need to worry about a theft of your cash.

I just tell people, it is safer for you and safer for me, and we get to chat for another minute or so while deciding on the final price, providing your or their email address and for the other side to get a confirmation.

And no counting involved!!!!!

I had a Sandisk 1 TB ssd, not reliable at all, replaced it with two 2 TB Samsung T7's that were $165 CDN at Best Buy in Canada. The T7's seem to be quite robust and have not had any errors, use one as a Time Machine and the other for moving large transfers from NAS storage to other places.

I will continue to buy the Samsung's and will be staying away from any more Sandisks

Thanks Dennis, is it bright enough for web surfing etc?

Hi Leonard. The monitor is definitely bright enough for web surfing.

I have never had the brightness turned all the way up for any task.

Thanks M1911, I know about that monitor but was wondering if it would be bright enough for other applications online like surfing the web, watching movies etc.

I have the SW2700PT for a few years now, excellent monitor, holds calibration very well. However it does not meet your needs, no usb C on it.

I upgraded to a MacBook PRO 14” with the M1 Pro when it came out and I use it with the SW2700PT but really want the powered usb-C that is on the newer monitors. I am saving for the Benq SW321C to become my first monitor and keep the 2700 as a second monitor or let my wife have the 2700 to go with her 2017 MacBook Pro if the 32” gives me all the real estate I want.

The brightness is no issue at all for watching movies, internet surfing, YouTube and any regular office applications.

I have been so happy with the 2700 I am going with a Benq again with the latest bells and whistles.

Btw I also use a Windows computer with the 2700 and it works great with it too.

I have the Lee holders and some of their cheaper filters. I read about Blue Frog filters out of Florida and decided to try them out. The customer service was excellent and the product seems to be high quality. I bought their kit that included the 10 stop and the six stop filters and a cpl. The kit came with the square filter holder and step down rings in 62, 67, 72 and 77 sizes. The holder itself is 82mm. I have been very happy with the images I have created using these filters and will probably buy more from Blue Frog. I have not experienced any colour cast.

flare guns while they are 12 gauge do not have the same load as 12 gauge shell going into a shotgun with 00 buck. That being said, I don't know about your jurisdiction but here in Canada it is a criminal offence to fire an emergency signal unless there is an emergency. While an instructor with the Canadian Sail and Power Squadrons we could not even get an exemption to fire them on a training day for boat owners. What we wanted to do was to have people that had never fired a gun fire the flare gun so they would feel safer to use it in the event of an emergency.

Our fix was to get a 10 gallon bucket and fire the old expired flares into the bucket. They got the sensation and it is nothing like firing a shotgun and we got rid of a ton of expired flares. Many people keep their outdated flares to use first in an emergency. Fortunately few people have to ever use them.

I doubt that it would be allowed where you are either but you should check, no sense getting a criminal record at your age Trix.

well then Rich you need to be eating the carrot tops and not the roots, the rabbits eat the tops. I have seen rabbits eating the carrot root after we throw them on a compost pile. But it looked like those rabbits were wearing glasses, lol

Just filled up my Toyota Camry this morning, $114.75 CDN ($88.72USD). This is nothing more than economic terrorism and those responsible should receive the same penalties as any other terrorist!

Here is a link to a short article you could print off for your students.
I took about 30 hours of photography courses in undergrad/graduate school. The days we learned composition were some of the more enjoyable classes for me.

I have been getting "OS" update available messages quite often, I didn't jump in when Monterey first came out Due to my BigSur update, which took a trip to the Apple store 140mi roundtrip, ( The computer would not restart) They finally got it so the computer would reboot,But my Thunderbolt monitor would not turn on, and a few other problems after many hours and days on the phone with apple support we got the monitor issue fixed, but the were two problems that persisted for 6 weeks, Finally the Apple tech called me and we installed a new unreleased update , that fixed the major of the two problems one persist to this date After working with support for 2 hrs yesterday.

Monterey OS: I opened about this computer clicked on software update searched for 2 hrs. and never found anything. I posted here , no help just the usual!! , tried again the next day same problem, finally called support got a very nice young lady with an accent but she put me through to an advanced Tech, finally restarted in Safe Mode Eureka!!! found and installed Monterey only took about 2 hrs. But the problem of opening folders was still there Click on a folder and it opens on monitor #2 , not the end of the world but aggravating, called support 2 hrs later and no joy, waiting to hear from Apple, if they can find a fix
I have been getting "OS" update availabl... (show quote)

I suppose you have already tried to open mission control in preferences and unchecked automatically rearrange Spaces based on most recent use and the other one that is when switching to an application...

another supposed fix is do a quick click in the desktop area before clicking Finder will make Finder open on that desktop. Same with a few other apps. Just a quick click on the desktop to "choose" that desktop and then click your app icon.

I no longer watch F1 had been a fan since 1972. I quit after that debacle of a race that ended the season last year. The rules were clear, the safety car should have remained and the race should have ended under caution. Verstappen should still be trying to get his first championship. In any event, that was the end of it for me. Nothing has been done to correct the season, absolutely nothing.

I have the new 14 inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro processor, 16 GB of memory and 1TB SSD. There are no issues with whether or not PS can run with this amount of ram. It runs just fine. When on my desk, I have it connected to a 27" BenQ monitor. I replaced my 27 inch iMac with this configuration and am quite happy. My old iMac had 32 GB of memory and this new one is an excellent improvement.

I have read others comments that have the MacBook Air with the M1 chipset and 16 GB memory and they are having no problems at all running PS.

Rendering video on my machine has been great too. At the very worst I expect that with 16 GB of memory I may experience some slowness but haven't seen any yet.

It has been my experience that the Mac systems have never required the amount of ram that the Windows system seems to need.

some of the previous suggestions about the new Studio might be a great way to go if you never want the computer other than at your desk but if you want portability at a MacBook Pro or Air with a monitor for your desk might be the way to go.
