In the end I succeeded in doing exactly what I wanted to do, burning directly from YouTube on to a DVD. I did this with the aid of a programme called freestudio.com kindly suggested by another contributor. By far the easiest programme for me, a non-geek, to use.
I wasted a few DVDs and CDs trying with RealPlayer etc. but freestudio was quick and uncomplicated and most importantly, it did the job.
Glad to hear that.
Actually, you can install a Firefox addon "VideoDownloadHelper" (there are quite a few similar plug-ins for Firefox), it will put a little icon in one of the browser's toolbars that will let you download the currently-running video.
As for burning to DVD, pesonally, I have installed ImgBurn and DVD Creator on my computer, both of them works well for that stuff:
I have been using them for a long time. It may be other options out there, for sure.
