A wide rubberband overlapping one end of focusing collar will keep focus from creeping.

10-4. Already put one on. Did not have the problem normally. This time I was doing some other things and was leaving the lens pointed down for an extended period of time. I have a 70-300 that does not creep (tested this) so the Tamron is the only one it have that does this (but I have used this lens the most)

It looks as if the zone of focus is more the question.
If you enlarge the area to the right of the flower to the green leaf it appears sharper than the flower. Also, the depth of the focus should be increased to bring sharpness to the front and through to the flower leafs. Suggest using a tripod if possible.
Easy for me to say, eh.

Thanks for looking. I did use a tripod. And I think I found out what is going on (some of it anyway). Regarding focus, I used a cable release and just stood back and shot after I focused. What happened is my lens was creeping I think. I had the tripod and a height that put the camera/lens on an angle of about 60 degrees. (This morning the lens was fully extended after being left in position over night).

I also notice that the first image exceeds the DoF, so that the center of flower is soft (OoF). The second image is better focus, but the noise outweighs the sharpness.

Went with manual focus and live view. I really think that I was the cause of this. Bad eyes!

I did notice that the focus seemed soft on it. Did you use lighting for flash with this? To me it seems like there is some kind of light hitting it or the way that the light is hitting it that is keeping it from popping. It's good though for your first attempt with this lens and LR.

Off camera bounce. Almost seems the sync is off or something. I may set up again and try tomorrow. Thanks.

I like the photograph, except for the gray background. I suggest a more botanic color, like light green, or medium blue.

Good thought. I will add to the collection soon. Thanks

This the first flower/orchid that I have shot with this lens and the first time to use LR4. Please tell me what you think and what I can do to improve. Hit me with your best shot you will not hurt my feelings  I use a T3i. Used a Tamron 18-270mm on these. The focus seems soft and something is just not popping.

18-270 1/13 400 6.3 almost no PP

18-270 1/13 400 6.3 used LR4

I could try and see if there is a local camera club with younger members, if no one has any ideas on creative uses for them

Just started with digital photo and found this forum. Have been looking on for a bit now and thought that I might as well introduce myself. I am still looking for my self in this new hobby so right now I am shooting just about anything to learn my camera and get my feet on the ground so to say. My wife and I just returned from a trip and the camera went with me and I really found out how much I need to learn to make photos pop and represent what I saw. So I look forward to talking to all and picking up what knowledge I can in my venture.

Just a little pointer on composition.
Unless you have a specific reason not to, always ensure that your horizons are perfectly level.
Then there's composition.
It's a common temptation for shooters to place the subject bang in the middle of the frame. BORING !!!!
Have you heard of the so-called "rule of thirds"? Well, its more of a guide really, but I went back, found the lizard and the boat and re-shot the photos to show you what is meant.
Compose so that the subject is "looking" into the frame and get close by all means but give it sufficient "room". Try not to cut off the top of the subject's head, for instance, unless of course you have a specific reason, and in the case of your photo, the top of the mast.
Hope to see more of your work soon.

Hey Skipper....welcome to the hog. Great first posts. Now, down to the nitty-gritty...
Pic 1. nicely done. You can give it a little more contrast. and try to make sure the horizon line is level. But good shot otherwise.
Pic 2. I cant say anything but really good shot. The iguana is nice and sharp, he is just slightly off center...good. Good shot.
Pic 3. In this case, lowering the horizon line, giving the shot more sky and thus including the entire mast, (rule of thirds,) would have made the pic better. Also the horizon line (water) needs to be again level. Good shot though.

Welcome. I agree with Rich, but would add to your first shot that I would have liked to have seen some leading lines in your picture to draw your eye towards the land in the background. Otherwise they are good pictures.

Skipper, I Welcome you aboard!

Regarding the photo of the sail boat, I would like you to think about level horizons, and in this case the composition would have been better if the horizon was lowered so to include the boats mast, and not have the horizon centered in the photo. I hope this helps with your venture.

Thanks for looking and commenting on them. Will do!! Again thanks.

Thanks for the welcome. Funny thing on the shot of the sail boat I was on another boat and had a terrible time holding the camera straight. But had fun getting the shot. Will work on the rest. Again thanks.
