Looks like Nikon has notified their 15 or so 'outside' authorized service centers that they will be no longer be 'authorized'. All camera repairs will need to be done by either the Melville or LA Nikon service centers.
This article better explains what will transpire. I have always found Melville to provide a quick and reasonable turnaround. Nikon has just renovated and increased the size of the Melville service center. Could this be in anticipation of the changes to come? Maybe the delays will not materialize as feared. Time will tell.

Even big industries are cutting costs. The High Street outlets are closing because the banks are no longer looking at 'expansion by buying out your competitors' as a good reason for loans. hence several big names have become bankrupt.
Most electronic equipment is cheaper to replace than have repair shops. Anything more than comestables...easily replaced or like hoover bags, necessary replacements...are posted on-line. We have become a throw away population. Even what was once a Big Purchase, like tv and hi fi is now dumped for a 'newer model'.
In the scale of things a high end camera is probably a dinosaur to the company accountants. Add another generation and it will probably be obsolete. The second hand market certainly has a steep downward value towards older cameras.

However there are people out there who will continue to 'tinker'. So it may not be 'under warrantee' but still fixable.

Is it me or my age, I am not a big user of Facebook but tend to look at it from time to time and people have a tendency to put the dumbest things on it such as having breakfast at, having lunch at, or having a glass of wine at, I do believe these people have no life or just need to tell everyone what they do on a a daily basis. Please tell me is it just me.

If you are interested BBC iplayer has Sir Berners Lee (The inventer of the World Wide Web) discussing his disquiet about how the WWW is being used. Under a Richard Dimbleby Annual Lecture. (Also on Youtube).

He is getting businesses to 'become more strict' in their information to counter 'Fake News'. He also points out that users should realise that 'their comments on facebook' NEVER go away.....so think before typing! What would your employer or future employer find: would they be impressed! He suggests that individuals should be more savvy in selecting where they get their Information from....and less reliant upon 'sharing URL,s'

Fake news, he states, is worse than cyber crime and financial crime. He states that many countries elections are being rigged by fake posts suggesting A politician is particularly interested in their problems and B politition cares less. Targetting small groups is particularly effective as fake news is not seen as a crime by law enforcement as no money or property is taken from the individual. Including The US he says that sixteen countries have changed their political leaders by these means in the last ten years. Democracy is failing. The current election propaganda in the UK is a prime example where 'headlines' are being 'disproved' daily. The BBC is being called Pro Conservative (when by law it has to be even handed). The majority of the press is also 'Conservative' aligned. (3 owners control 79% of circulation)

Short of demanding censorship he hopes that countries will sign up to deal with businesses and individuals to demand that 'fake news sites' be identified, taken down and prosecuted.

It is an interesting article

Jerry Handicapped went out with the Ark...Less abled is the current buzz word or disabled.
Yes you usually put the disabled car spaces close to the entrance As the spaces are wider apart and often less used it means, when needed, emergency vehicles can also get closer to deal with any incidents.

In the UK the disability society were adamant that they did not want 'to concrete' over the countryside when in 2001 Access to The Countryside and Rights of Way Act and also the Disability Discrimination Act both became law. (footpaths on private open land which have traditionally allowed people to wander) Instead they wanted better and easier gates rather than stiles and 'kissing' gates (a triangular arangement that allows a single gate to close one opening at a time so that stock could not escape.) replaced with a standard gate. They also suggested more seating throughout the paths, a notional distance that the path takes and some 'short paths' or circular paths close to car parking areas. They were not particularly bothered about terrain or path surface as they felt that individuals could asses 'their own ability' to access paths. They wanted discretion rather than 'special' paths. Unlike car parking where the spaces are getting tighter as the cars are getting wider: often the disabled spaces are empty, thus causing 'an issue' over how many are provided.

The biggest issue they had was with mountain bike users! Yet Local Government still believe that a cycle path can be a painted line on a footpath to the annoyance of everyone.

when I view some of the posts that are put up on the hog, many of them are very nice, some are outstanding, and some are just too over prossessed.

Now this is just my humble opinion.

Some of the posts are just too evenly lit, every shadow detail is available, trees and mountains are all just picture post card perfect. Now I have been around enough to know that scenic opportunities are rarely ,if ever perfectly illuminated. So...my thought is, am I the only one who is satisfied with capturing a given scene SOOC ?

I often shoot my scenics with both eyes open with the thought of capturing in camera exactly what is before me, or as close as I can get it given the broad spectrum of light falling on a given vista.

I'm afraid that there is so much PP of everything ,that what we all are exposed to now are all just personal renditions of what is or was actually there. Some post are so perfectly PP'd, that they take on the apperance of a lithograph rather than a photograph.

Example: taking a picture of the sun will always render the rest of the scene whofully under exposed, yet I see shots with the sun as evenly lit as the surrounding landscape. Yes, there are times when it is possible to shoot a sun scene and have some forground or backround lit. But not evenly. I have tried. something has to give.

I feel like a lone wolf trying to capture what I see as it is, while many are manipulating their shots to render them more perfect or "pleasing" to the eye.

With so much pp going on, it's very hard to know what is real anymore.

Just my observations and ramblings.

Everyone sees the world differently and with the option of post processing what you photograph to meet your own tastes there are bound to be 'differences' in the results.

We probably look at more 'pictures' in a week than our parents saw in a lifetime. Andy Worhol took an image or Maralyne Monrow and put several different 'colour castes' of it into a single arrangement. It became 'Iconic' but would you or I get away with it at the local club meeting now, when everyone knows how easy it it to reproduce. You are damned if you don't post process it and damned if you do. Even accused of doing it when you haven't.

Real is only what you think. Find images that you admire and strive to emulate them. There are too many people 'taking images' to try and make a statement about what is right or wrong in their 'ideals'. There is no 'standard' to achieve - because you have too many peers.

I shoot in Raw+Jpeg. 9/10ths of what I shoot gets binned so Jpeg is easier to read to see if I captured an image that is worth keeping or post processing. It is not 'spray and pray' it is just that what I saw and the idea that I had, hasn't translated into a good enough image. Having walked around and thought more: there is often a better image to capture.

Looking at Raw files - you see 'the base file' and depending upon your software it can appear to have colour caste or exposure problems. You then end up playing with each image to try and get it right.

I could delete the files 'in camera' as I go, but prefer to judge my images on the monitor. Who knows, there can often be a gem tucked into the extremes of the frame. You would not see it on the camera led.

Shooting both only costs more when you save 'everything' !

Your camera - your workload....if it works for you, why overthink it.

Hard to believe, but someone actually paid 120k for a banana because it was taped to a wall and called art.
It's on the level of some photography and drawn art I've seen.
If Joe Schmoe from the street enters obscure junk he's mocked and shunned. If a well known or rich 'artist' enters the same thing it's looked at as genius.

Such is art.....not what you do - but to who you can sell it to.

But then we get this argument about: is ART a learned skill or an innate natural 'ability'. OR what makes an iconic photograph...? answer.....have you got the 'gift of the gab'.

The last few years have seen hotter summers and wetter winters. It could be that birds have adapted their range a little bit. Most insect species (Bird food) are very good barometers of local temperature ranges...being mobile they do move out of an area that doesn't suit them. When they plant lots of rapeseed in our area the yellow fields create air turbulence and actually reduce local rainfall. So we get the tiny beetles that love rapeseed but a lot less bees, butterflies and wasps. They just bugger off for greener pastures.

Aircraft and Aluminum spray?......sounds like a conspiracy theory to me.

I wish I had photographed my first PC. It was a rectangular box with a small screen at one end (about 9" square) and had the first accounts package (Similar in every way to Excell)that got taken over with MS. It had a basic page edit. I upgraded to a 086 pc with writer software - took a while for me to get a pc that ran Windows.
Wish I had learned code instead >>>>>

Probably going to have to pay. I looked at quick books years ago and decided it wanted too much info on my computer ie bank details cheque book register with stocks etc - plus the set up time was huge. I went with Excel.....I know what it means,so does my accountant and Her Majesty's Tax Inspectors accepts it. (That was 20 years ago when PC fraud wasn't a huge issue) NOW I would be even more afraid to put all my 'nest eggs' on the PC.

Jerry you keep your passwords on the computer? Duh
People who nick computers rarely go to the bother of searching for passwords beyond looking for post it slips stuck in drawers or behind monitors......

I could use a linux usb/cd to open up your pc and search all of your windows files. It may take a while I accept.

Pencil and paper in a three year old diary kept in a filing cabinet.....Safest place of all - well one of them!

There was an interesting article on Aljazzhiri:
Since the fall of the Berlin Wall more right wing governments have flourished without the fear of 'the working class' turning communist. The poor have been blamed for not working harder yet wages have not risen because the 'people' repaid banks failing...Austerity has greater effect on the poor, it also creates more poor.
House prices have increased more rapidly in the last two decades than in the previous years despite massive growth in housing. The % of young home owners is at an all time low. Companies are going bankrupt so that directors can buy out the profitable bits at discount. Those that post growth, fail to post how much debt they incurred to purchase their competitors....Often their senior management 'bail out' with a golden handshake prior to the rapid decline in company worth when banks no longer lend them new cash and they cannot continue to expand. It isn't profit that drives this: it is personal greed.

Everyone understands that there is no free money.....and beginning to realize that you cannot work your way up by your labour. BIG money is playing roulette with the stock market. Ordinary people have no clue as to who owns what. Governments are 'bailing out' a shrinking capitalism. Capitalism itself has ceased to have any conscience.

NB UK Labour Party promised to get British Telecom (Which was only recently de-nationalised) to provide free Broadband to every household...(which actually would not cost very much in new infra-structure) BT answer.....They moved their registered office off shore....prior to the election on the 12 December! Even the dumb electorate know that election promises hardly ever are based on reality and rarely get adopted.

We are only a Century from The Victorian era, When the poor were being blamed for 'being poor', disease was being blamed on the poor and social unrest was blamed on the poor...Then it was the rich industrialists that built the modern society that we live in - NOT middle management or Banking. Unfortunately the Billionaires today do not live where their money sits.

This is not just true in the UK but many other countries too.

Government is to serve The Nation not the Individual. People's rights often conflict with other people's 'Rights'. There are no simple, clearly defined 'Rights'.

People seem to want to have their wishes enshrined by law. We end up with too many laws. Individuals also tend to pick and choose their own 'boundaries' within legislation. So that Laws become less effective and often contradictory.

We need less laws and less 'Individuals choices'. In that way it would be simpler for Government to Govern not pander to 'those that shout the loudest'.

Not that it will happen...

Look online for tutorials, there are lots. Try the ones that interest you. You will learn different camera settings and get a hang for when to use them in a controlled manner. Plus you will explore different aspects of photography that you might not have 'fancied'.. Set time aside to read 'about' photography, as well as time to go out and 'look' for examples of what you have read about. You need to see the context and adapt your shooting to suit what you discover. Don't rush in.....think and plan your time.

Look at composition and then look at other people's images - can you see why the shot was taken 'from that point of view'. Can you replicate the kind of shots that you like to see.

Good photography is about thinking and planning - the right place at the right time of day and season....

Don't get too reliant upon Post Processing, a light touch is much better than a total rebuild....go shoot it again, and again, and again....learn to think your shot through. The mindset makes the image.

Keep it fun....this isn't work. People have different tastes....your fantastic may be their 'ok'. Your own satisfaction is what keeps you going. Explore the things that you enjoy.

WOW, you've twigged.....Black Friday isn't necessarily bargains all the way.
The increase in sales is more probably that monthly salaried people are buying for christmas rather than waiting for December's salary and having to shop at the last minute.

Hope you get what you wished for
