Thanks for the replies. I prefer the size of the DSLR(A-mount) over the mirror less bodies. I have handled the 7 series e-mount and just didn't like the feel. Regarding lenses I have a host 16-35 24-70 cz version I, 70-200 version I, and 85 cz and 50 sony. First pic taken with 85 cz others with 70-200. Lens speed is not the problem, buffer filling up too quickly is.

I have been using the original A99 for around 4 years now, mostly fast action photography. Have been pleased overall with some of the images that I have captured but the buffer fills up so quickly. To those that have actually used both, Is the buffer that much better on the A99II, or is it time to switch systems?

Welcome to the forum. Mirrorless cameras are becoming more popular nowadays. You can get them in full frame and crop sensors models. The general manufacturers are Sony, Panasonic, Fuji and Olympus. All of them make quality mirrorless cameras. One of the most mentioned crop sensor camera on the forum is the Sony a6000. A friend owns this camera, along with two kit lenses, the 16-50mm and the 55-210mm. This is your best bargain crop sensor mirrorless camera. Or you could go buy Sony's most expensive full frame mirrorless camera. The Sony a9, for a mere $4500. Don't forget to buy expensive native lenses to accommodate it too. Of course there are a lot in between. You could also consider one of Sony's Translucent Mirror cameras, that all come as crop sensor. However, these aren't mirrorless cameras. Good luck.

Sony's A99 and A99II translucent mirror cameras are full frame!

Agree with everything the others have said :). I'm a nuts and bolts type and have to ask, what camera(s)/len(s) did you use?

Maybe for Point and Shoot entry level cameras, but not for Nikon, Sony, Fuji, Panasonic, and Canon when they get off of their developmental plateau and release an D850 killer.

You can't do this with an iPhone anything.

I'm not even going to go there (dslr vs mirrorless) and will stay apple to apple. Anyway Sony's 850 killer is called the "A99 M2". It was released in November 2016. Check the specs and the reviews. Also note, some of the "Sony" features that Nikon finally conceded to (i.e. flip screen, focus peaking) and included in the 850.

Oh so sorry agreed with the comments regarding the original post, beautiful capture. Don't mean to hijack this post.

It has been several years since I've purchased from them but was really happy with their service/price. I had a Asus motherboard fail during the warranty period. After a phone call from my repair tech not only did they cross ship a replacement but they also sent a refund since the motherboard was cheaper at that time then when I purchased it. I hope they are still the same company as they were then A+.

Reach is overrated. Difference in image quality is underrated.

Thank you thank you thank you! First off I agree with the hoggers that feel there is nothing wrong with revisiting old topics (there is nothing new under the sun). If you don't have the desire to, then just don't read or participate. Gene51 you are absolutely right. A pic is worth a 1000 words. We all appreciate you taking the time to post those pics, beautiful btw. I guess I have too much time on my hands cause I read this subject whenever it's posted, usually once a week :). My $.02 if expense or weight is a concern then go with the crop. Otherwise FF is the way to go. I once saw someone comment on this forum about this subject. He does drag racing and stated crop frame to full frame is the same as a small block to big block engines. According to him there is no substitution for cubic inches. And like Gene51 mentioned, compare oranges to oranges. If you compare a newer crop to a older full frame the differences may be smaller then if you compare sensors from the same generation. I have a Sony a77(crop frame) and a Sony a99 (full frame) with same generation sensors, both 24 megapix. If Pics taken with the a77 are stereo then pics from the a99 are surround sound. The full frame pics just have a presence that isn't there with the crop frame pics. I wont go into the better low light, high iso or depth of field thing.

Orrie, under the basket I use a 24-70 f 2.8 From the corner I use a 70-200 f 2.8. I try not to let my shutter slip below 640 any thing under 800 you will start seeing motion at the extremities. With younger player you can bind the rules a bit with slower shutter speeds but as they age and the speed of the game increases so will your shutter speed increase. Gyms are notoriously dark so a large aperture is a must. I have a few gyms where I pull the 85 f 1.8 out of my 50 f 1.8. Also get low especially with little kids. Shoot from the sitting position or from your knees. I never leave home without my knee pads. In the really bad gyms I shoot with off camera flash and place a speedlite about 12 to 16 feet high in the stands on a rail, and high speed sync it to lower the ISO. Good luck, post some shots so we can see how your doing.

Actually there were big windows on each side of the gym letting it outside light. However the day was cloudy.

Personally from what I've read/heard/experienced the only lens that really would work for you as far as basketball is the 70-200 and 50. The others will not provide enough light. Again You have a excellent camera for high iso and frame rate.
