Beautiful firework show on Bass Lake in California for the 4th of July. I used a D90 Nikon camera and varied the settings to see what I could capture. I was surprised at the results from the longer exposure images, especially since I did not use a tripod. My pictures turned out better than the ones that my daughter took with her iPhone 7.

I like the second color picture that your granddaughter chose. I know with my daughters, they prefer color and more natural looking pictures (they really don't like too much blurring or soft focus. All the pictures are very well done.

Beautiful Picture - what is the difference with the IS off vs on? I don't use a tripod vary often, so I did not realize that it was a good idea to turn it off.

The IS stabilizes the image while being held with some movement. On a tripod the IS is still trying to stabilize movement when there is none. Causing a slightly blurred image. It can be in the body or the lens. It's more evident with telephoto lens , take a shot with it on , then the same shot with it off.

Thank you for this info. I will have to check this out. This is something I did not know.

No! I don't think we have Cardinals here in California. You have some amazing shots. Thanks for sharing them. :D

I looked it up, and I was wrong, there are Cardinals in California. Now I just need to figure out where they are. I get quail, scrub jays, woodpeckers, robins, finches, and hummingbirds in my yard but no cardinals. I really appreciate that you share your awesome pictures.

Good capture Tainkc, I like the close crop. 8-)
Thanks. This is where a good camera, good lens, and photoshop come in handy with a bad photographer.

I don't think a bad photographer could get a shot like this. Your good camera, good lens, and photoshop (if you used it) has made your great shot look amazing. This is one awesome capture.

I am no expert on HDR, but I was wondering if there was a little less contrast, if there would be a little more detail. Are these created from several images at different exposures or from one image that you used to create the HDR? This looks like a great subject for HDR. :D
