Did you have a chance to stay at East Wind Inn? It’s our favorite, though health issues and the pandemic have kept us from staying under the new ownership. And did you enjoy the remains of the wooden ships just to the left of your picture?

Interesting. Hadn’t heard of Burley before. Wikipedia says it is (a) tobacco - and that it’s used for cigarettes.

Just say “seagull” around a naturalist and you’ll find out. Right away.

Excellent set! You cannot beat a NatGeo cruise.

👍. You know you are close when you can smell the fish breath. The ships and visitors have distancing rules. The whales don’t.

I recall reading that the accuracy issue (which could be controlled by the data reported by the satellite) was actually overcome by an engineer who just used the data provided by more satellites to calculate a more accurate position in commercial GPS units.

revokable vs revocable--which one will win? So far I count three "k"s and two "c"s. We know what it means but we can't agree on the proper spelling.

Webster weighs in with “c preferred, “k” an alternate (which, as I understand it, means it’s widely enough used to rate listing.) So we do agree.

In my opinion, they should shorten baseball games to about three innings. That's about the total amount of action time in any game. It's more boring to watch than golf.

Then you would agree with the old joke: a baseball game; 25 minutes of excitement jammed into 3 hours. Now, when it’s your kid playing, every minute is precious.

“ Sony has been making cameras and lenses for decades”

2006 Sony bought the DSLR operations from Konica-Minolta (which had been formed in 2003 with the merger of Konica and Minolta.).

We all know that there are lots of temporary brands offered online, especially on Amazon. I bought a two-pack of Fairywill electric toothbrushes from Amazon. The twin pack was on sale for $35. I've been using one while my Oral-B takes a couple of days to charge. Yesterday, it occurred t me that I'll need replacement brushes eventually, so I looked on Amazon. Not surprisingly, they do not sell the Fairywill toothbrush any longer. They have others that look similar with different names. Fortunately, they do sell replacement brush heads, so I bought eight for $12.

That's something I had never considered. Will replacement parts be available for an off brand when I need them? I usually buy brand name products, but when I buy generics, I'll get replacement parts at the same time.

What surprised me about the Fairywill brush heads is the large number of toothbrush models listed. Mine is Model 507, and I'm glad they had the heads available.

The question you ask is one of the significant factors in government contracting. The requirements frequently include decades of maintenance and parts availability. A real challenge as suppliers go out of business and alternative parts must be sourced. On-going challenge.

Here in SW Ohio, plastic is still king but the city is contemplating outlawing styrofoam carry out containers and plastic straws.
We always recycle our plastic bags as many times as we can but with the Kroger bags, your'e lucky to get in the house before they rip open.

We do too. Thin film plastic bags go in the (cloth) recycling bag. What was really frustrating was learning that most plastic bags sent for recycling aren’t recycled. Too expensive and little demand. Landfill. Still, some being recycled is better than none.

There are so many things that a guy needs for whatever purpose that no matter how many merchants one visits you will not find it in my little 40,000 person town, even if there is a store that logically would carry such an item. Using mail order is the only solution in those cases. I use Amazon, and other online sources, for just that reason.

Same in our little 1M person city. At best lots of phone calls and a 30 minute drive for lots of items. In many cases, the phone call produces inconclusive results - ”Oh, yeah. I’m sure we have it.” When local retailer’s inventory is available on line, it definitely pays to look for local prices - makes the drive worthwhile.

That was hilarious! A long time ago I owned a 1970 MGB-GT and this article reminded me of some of the problems I had back then!!

Thanks for posting
Paul

66 B-GT here. Great car to drive - superb handling (really) and extremely well balanced - barely needed snow tires in upstate NY. The heater and defroster were a different story. And I did need to deal occasionally with the throttle linkage, which tended to ice up and freeze open. Exciting the first time it happened.

A few quirks that stuck with me. The Brits at MG never figured out two speed wiper motors, so a downpour was challenging. In fact the solution in later years was to add a third wiper. I had the snagged-tooth hood emblem - attached to the hood. The badge fell off (fortunately in the drive way), but was easy to glue back on. In later years, MG moved the badge to the grill, but they left the raised (and now unused) attachment point on the hood. Save money.

And I never did need the fuel pump I carried in the boot.
