I dont know about style, I just shoot for fun and family. I do like to shoot Birds and pla outdoors.
I also Love to shoot Landscape which I do a Lot of. I like to take my time for my exposures and is considered a tad slow with a camera.
This is a wonderful topic and just wanted to put my 2 cents in and see all of the diverse comments.

I just finished watching a 1-hour Youtube video on the Nik collection. I was surprised and somewhat confused by one recommendation regarding the sequence of edits. Presuming you do your first edits in LR, and then start to export to Nik in sequence: Raw process in LR, Define 2 for noise, Vivasa 2 for specific color work (alternatively HDR Effects 2), then Color Effects or Silver Effects, and finally, Output Sharpener. The recommendation is to Resize the image before the output sharpener. I can understand that the type of display (print or web) and the size of the image should impact the sharpening. That makes sense to me. But I tend to resize on export, using the export menu to define the size etc. If going to the web, I downsize and convert to jpg. If I do this and then sharpen, I end up with a Tiff again, and much larger size. I then need to re-export and downsize. Seems like a lot of work, a complicated process and probably, a pretty edgy image again. (See attached 2-shot HDR that went through this process. Interesting that this images looks a lot darker uploaded to UHH than on my screen.) Even if I resize within LR or PS, and then sharpen, I end up with a large Tiff again, which needs to be downsized to send to the web. What am I missing? Thanks,

I use PS almost always, and I do use pse 15.
I like the power of ps, but, I do like to play with filters,
Topaz and Nik. I use filters yto have fun , I seldom use filters for my serious work.
I have watched the video from the link you posted and find the work flow cumbersom.
But , it may just be me.

I really appreciate the chance to be a part of this forum. I'm fairly new to the digital photography world and have a new found interest in bird photography. This spring my only child left home so what's more appropriate for the empty nest syndrome;)
I splurged and bought a D 500 Nikon with the 200 to 500 lens with the 1.7 x converter. Only trouble is I really don't know everything I need to get colorful sharp images. They all seem to be drab and lack clarity. I would appreciate any help and advice. Look forward to being a part of this group. Thanks

Welcome to the forum.
I agree with the other UHH's lose the converter.
I suggest a sturdy tri-pod and a remote release.
by the way, great setup you have.

I've got a lot of questions, so here I go with my Post #2 on this Forum.

Which shooting mode do you use the most? I have a Nikon D7100. It features Programmed mode, Shutter mode, Aperture mode, and Manual. We don't even need to talk about Programmed, I think that's for beginners. I mainly use Aperture mode. But somewhere I read that to really learn photography, you should use Manual almost exclusively.

Of course, Shutter mode is the right one for certain situations, like freezing the action.

My D7100 also has a "Scenes" mode, but I also think that's for beginners or for situations where you don't have a lot of time.

What do you think?

I usually use Aperture mode.

My advice is to use the mode that you are most comfortable with
and experiment with other modes till you feel comfortable to use them.
Each mode can be useful depending on the situation.

Hello, all. I am fairly new at UHH. I have used a version of PSE for 8 years to do my post processing. It seems to do the things that I want and is reasonably priced. I'm currently on version 14. It has a glitch that won't do panoramas, but I go to an earlier version for that and then return to 14. I have gone through some earlier threads on PS CC and Lightoom vs Elements, but did not really get a definitive feel for if I should just stay with what I have. I would not want to pay for a monthly subscription to add another program. I shoot with a Canon 6D/16-35mm zoom and a Nikon D7200/18-200mm. You can check out a good sampling of my photos at https://500px.com/drg7771 to see if there are things that I could do better with my post processing. Do you think I am good with PSE 14, or is it worth it to change or add another program?

Hello , everyone.
My name is Charlton Larca, However my nickname is "Hobbycam"
That name was made up of two words. hobby and camera, therefor "hobbycam
I am a hobbiest (if that is a real word.
My journey started 1959, when my father and uncle built a darkroom for me
and my Uncle gave me a "Yashica J" 35mm camera. I was os very excited and read
and experimented with the chemicals and film as well as all the books I could find at the time.
I also decided to keep it fun, as my Uncle advised. So I did not go professional, just kept it as a hobby,
and absorbed as much as I could. I still do so today in my retirement. I just have more time to
spend on my passion. I have found that after all of these years, I have landed on "landscapes" as a canvas.
Between my father, uncle and sister, I have the following:
Not to boast, just commenting on how my hobby has paid for itself, It is by no means a bussiness.
This way I can and always keep it fun.

One more thing, I do plan on becoming an active part of Ugly HedgHog.
I have not been very active in the past because of my work.
Retired now and more time to be active on a forum that is part of my hobby.

Hello everyone. I'm glad to find this forum and I hope it will be a good resource for me. I have a Canon Rebel T3i, and I have zero budget for anything better, so I'm doing as well as I can with what I have. My lenses are: the 18-55 kit lens (ignored), a Canon 50mm fixed lens (LOVE it), and a Tamron 18-270mm. I shoot for a living, but I don't get a choice of my settings at work. At home I take hundreds of photos, and play with settings as much as I want to. I'm eager to learn as much as I can, and I hope this forum will prove to be a valuable asset. I stay in M mode and use natural light. My greatest weakness is my lack of knowledge in lighting techniques. I have a flash that I've barely used. I would like to learn to use reflectors (I've seen various types on Amazon, not too pricey). My dream camera is a Canon T6s, or a Nikon D7100, same type I use at work. I have recently decided that owning a Nikon and becoming extremely familiar with it would make me more valuable to my company. Either way, I would like a camera with more sophisticated options than what I have now.
