Hi Cliff,

Thanks for that, so is this what I have read about the file in PS being over 4000 different levels but J peg only having 256?

Would it mean I could get round it if I blended it a bit better?

Thanks again

The 256 colors is only part of it. An uncompressed ( or compressed at quality 11 or 12) file with 256 colors still looks pretty good - it it the further size reduction/compression for web use that does it. One way to hide it a bit is to add noise, believe it or not. That tends to even out the blends.

Or you can add a slight gaussian blur to the sky area. That too will even the blends a bit.

Thank you for the info....someone suggested that I should also try changing some PS settings to be best and sharpened for web use. I don't suppose you know how this is done?

I guess inverting a layer mask with some blur and painting that in is a good idea and seems a simple solution. I just wish I could get it the way I want it so I don't have to upload then see there is an issue to change then fix and try over.

I have a canon ix6550 A3 printer and the print output for photos is absolutely brilliant and cartridges can be purchased on ebay at a very reasonable price - would highly recommend.

I paid £188.00 (incl Shipping ) on Amazon - worth every penny.

Buy my paper from Jessops - fabulous quality.

Hi, Got the printer and all looks and feels good. I have now got some gloss paper and set up the print through the canon software. The picture looks great on screen but when printed out the image seems darker and the skin on my daughters face is more grey and nothing like the image on screen. i printed this from the tiff file. Is there something I am missing?

Has your monitor been calibrated? You probably need to do this so that what you see on the screen is very close to what the output of the printer will be.

One of the basic things is that we often have our monitors set at too high a brightness level resulting in prints that are too dark. Sometimes and I emphasize "sometimes" that is enough to normalize the prints. If you are saying that the color is off, then you will need to do a calibration. Google it and you will find many systems available to take care of it.

If you are using Canon paper and inks then make sure that you are making the correct choices for the paper type when setting up the printer. If you are using non-Canon paper, then you may need to have your post processing program do the color management (rather than the printer) and install the proper profile for that printer/paper combo. Many paper manufacturers have them available on their websites.

Hi, Thanks for the reply....I am going to try the calibration as i doubt its been done as i dont remember doing it also some things I read may also help with a relared issue I have with a few images I put on Flickr that have a colour banding issue but are not shown on PS or the JPEG saved. Do you think this will help the same way?

Should I let canon run the settings or PS?

Thanks again

Hi all.

A question for anyone who can help please.

I get my images just the way I want them in PS, I have checked them on my second pc on both the tiff and the Jpeg I save for each but when then loaded online they look a little different. For example in this image below the area on PS has the light from the sun blended perfectly into the sky but when loaded to my flickr you can see that the colour is easy to notice in layers and no smooth blend:-

Can anyone pin point my error? I have PS shop set as sRGB and putting it back down to 8bit before saving the j peg I upload but it makes no difference....I have just checked this on my work pc and it looks the same :(

Thanks in advance

Hi all, could I please call on your wisdom.....well advise. I currently spend time working on images to load to flickr as more of a social past time and share tips and comments. With this I must have a good 200 images that I feel are not for flickr and are more stock based images of different locations etc.

where would you say is the best place to put these with a good site that I could guide people to if they asked to see what stock I have? Also I would like to have them in an area so I can build on images as a sort of collection to my stock images.....any advise would be great?

Thank you Danilo, it does have some great reviews and looks like a good way to go.
Also is the difference with the dye based and pigment based just down to the flow of the ink?

Thanks again for your advise.

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a decent photo printer for up to A3 size prints? I am looking at spending up to £300 and don’t mind second hand if there are some deals I might be able to search/buy through auction sites.
Or does anyone have a printer they can advise if it is good or not?
I am looking to have a strong mix of colours as the shots I want to print can range in colour as:- http://www.flickr.com/photos/roanmanion/

Any help would be great :)

Hello.

New to the site but looking forward to talking to some people and picking up some tips on photography. Moved down south to Devon (UK) and thought I would try my hand at some photography starting nearly a year ago. Jumped straight in with my D5000 and everything set to manual so I could learn from my mistakes as I went along. I have been loading pics to my flickr account - www.flickr.com/photos/roanmanion as I have gone along taking advise and inspiration from others.
As it is close to a year at it I thought I would join a group of people that I feel confident in talking about tec and settings and learning some more.

So Hi to you all and look forward to getting to know you :)
