A known DJ in my area wants me to take headshots of guests as they enter his cd launch party. the gimmick is they will be asked to hold a bow-tie up to their neck , it's his signature look.

I know by shooting tethered I can import with settings already applied 2 clicks in lightroom 4 to export.

minimise LR have email running underneath, ask the person's email add attach the pic which will be ready in less than 1 min zap gone........next person

the prob is he wants the email adds in a database that he can access later..
I have an old macbook and a regular gmail account
thank you in advance

I struggle with this myself on family shoots. after the kids warm up to me they do the same thing as soon as you put the camera up they move toward you. I've learned that one must use a higher than normal shutter speed, and AIfocus, because toddlers don't stand still at all. Then you basically have to trick them into doing the cute thing a few feet away. it basically turns into a game of fetch where one throws toys a distance away, then when they get close fall on your back and hold them back with your feet they usually think this is great and one gets the giggle faces etc. yes I really do this

My story is very similar to debbi's I have found out the hard way that attracting paying clients is much harder than I thought. I went into this with the expectation of doing 1 paying gig a month, just to cover the loan I took out to get the equipment. That has only happened 50% of the months since opening. I thought it would just take a few nice shoots with some families and the referrals would start to trickle in. That has not happened. I believe it will happen in enough time. So I'm not hanging myself yet.

I ran into a known shooter guy in my town at an event. He had his flash on a frame so it was at the same level of the lens and directly to the right of the front of the lens, where his knuckles would be on his right hand when holding the camera... I have never seen this before. I asked him why he claimed "it helps with shadows". I didn't understand becaise he had it pointed strait up with a cap diffuser. My only thought was that it could help reduce the overall footprint of the camera and make it less cumbersome to push through a crowd. but I can't see an advantage putting the flash lower and closer to the front of the lens. I attached the best example I could find although the flash was mounted opposite of the example

kkthanks Bri

I understand the store retrieve concept so I put the images back into the folder that they are usually retieved from. The images do show up in the collection as missing. I have a feeling because all the other images in the other collections ARE missing. LR claimes it can't find anything

I was running out of space on my computer. I got an external harddrive and move the vast majority of my pics onto it. resumed edit the set I was doing LR tells me the pics are offline or missing. I realise that the pics were in fact moved onto the external drive. I got and put them back into the same folder that lightroom has be working out of since I loaded it. now LR can't find anything including the backup folder which I didn't touch. I already optimised nothing changed
This is where my lack of IT savvy hurts the most
thanks in advance for your suggestions

does anyone see the big discolored area on her forehead, kinda like she got a sunburn only in one area????????..............................................................................................RIGHT YOU DON'T SEE IT CAUSE IT'S NOT F-ING THERE IT WAS A SMUDGE ON MY SCREEN. I PUSHED MORE BUTTONS AND MOVED MORE SLIDERS THAN A PANICING TOURIST TRYING TO LAND A PLANE AFTER THE PILOT HAS A HEART ATTACK.

I have 1 canon 580EXII. I'd like to add 2 more inexpensive speedlights to use on location shoots. I've glanced at the manual and apparently canon speedlight can talk to each-other(slave master etc.) w/o radio triggers. Anyone know of reliable inexpensive flashes that will work in this system,or will I have to use all radio triggers. I recently took a huge step forward in equipment so these concepts are new to me.....thanks

I can't get past the fact that the first agent is simply being a poor sport. He she/is making you dance, they have nothing to gain

What makes you think he's using a $50K medium format camera?[/quote]

I've read he uses Sinar, mamiya, and pentax, I see the super detail and just assume it's a monster camera, I'm not pro enough to truly tell

thanks everyone I never thought to simply ask the man. It's definitely above and left. It seems slightly more concentrated than a softbox because the light isn't wrapping around the face, soft box w/grid maybe???
