Thought I'd dig into my flower collection for something a little different. One of these days I may learn how to use some of the creative filters on these kinds of images. For now, I'll settle for ordinary.

As I recall, the last three were shot in RAW and converted to JPEG.

Oh Wow I just love those Roses.

What else can I say

Hi Folks, this is the Cumberland Presbyterian Church located in Montgomery Bell State Park near Burns Tennessee. It is a sandstone replica of the original built in 1810. Today the church is mostly used for special services and weddings. It's way out in the woods, parking is about 1/4 mile away. Shot as (in camera) HDR's with Sony RX10M3.

Two magnificent photos. Very well presented.

Earlier this week I posted a photo and asked what people thought the story was. I wasn't feeling well, the result of an "airliner cold," but I thought some banter about a light-hearted photo might perk me up. Well, let me tell you, in short order someone posted a rather splenetic response, informing me that photos don't tell stories. Not wanting to throw cold water on the conversation, I responded that I didn't agree but the person was entitled to his opinion.

Not good enough! The writer wrote back, citing sources and broadening his argument in an attempt to completely discredit the notion that a photo could tell a story. As I said, I wasn't feeling well, so I wrote it off as the rantings of some sparrow-fart (a nod to Kurt Vonnegut for that descriptor) and tried to put it behind me.

But it nagged at me. I thought of the photo of the sailor kissing the nurse in Times Square at the end of WWII, the Vietnamese girl running naked with festering burns caused by napalm, the recent photo of the Syrian child sitting bloodied and dazed in an ambulance. (I'm betting that every one of you knows exactly what photos I've just listed.) And I asked myself, "If those images aren't telling a story, then why have they become iconic?"

Then, on Tuesday evening, I attended my camera club meeting, and half of the meeting was dedicated to a "member critique," in which a panel of three of our better photographers sat and commented on images that members had submitted for evaluation. It's a really nice event, and everyone learns from it, whether they agree or disagree with the comments. And it happened: over and over, the panel members included an assessment of the photos' story-telling quality. Over and over, I heard, "This image tells a (You insert the adjective) story." Over and over, the panel members alluded to story telling as a normal and crucial element of their evaluation.

So here's my question--I know, I know, it's about time I got to my question--Do you think photos tell stories? Obviously, I do. Obviously, at least one person doesn't. What do you think?

Almost everything in life tells a story.. It all starts with how we perceive a photo an expression or a statement
Or even body language....it is all part and parcel of the story

Still going through some old pictures. The first one is from years back, when I went out the first time with my then new 70-200. I was just playing around with it (also wanting to know how things would come out at f/2.8, so it was still set to that aperture when I noticed something moving/flying really fast ( just saw it in the corner of my eyes), barely had enough time to get the camera up to my face and point it in the direction to what ever this was, and here it is. The second image is what I came up with after playing with it in Photoshop for a while.

I still make prints of the images I like. My grown kids have no use for them; but they will find them when I die.

I agree b/w prints really hold their colour. During the 1950's whilst on a school trip to Switzerland I took a photo of three children(with their mum's permission) in Basle wearing their countrie's outfits. The camera was film and cost shillings and pence from Woolworths in north Watford. I still have that photo and all things considered it might not draw any gasps of admiration from folks today but I cherish it

I used my 500mm f/8 mirror lens.

The auto focus algorithm has been vastly improved. I have used this same, screw driven, lens on the A77II. It would click and bang while attempting to focus. I think it was under-damped (for the engineers reading this). Now the focus is critically-damped. It works quickly and smoothly, without make a lot of noise.

Pittsburgh won. I have many more photos. These are all JPGs made by the camera. I have the RAW files, but until DxO or LR catches up and supports this camera, I'll just save them.

After retiring from the army, a former Artillery Sergeant took a job as a high school teacher. Just before the school year started, he injured his back. He was required to wear a light plaster cast around the upper part of his body. Fortunately, the cast fitted snugly under his shirt and wasn't noticeable when he wore his suit jacket

On the first day of class, he found himself assigned to the toughest students in the school. The smart-ass punks, having already heard the new teacher was a former soldier, were leery of him and he knew they would be testing his discipline in the classroom.

Walking confidently into the rowdy classroom, the new teacher opened the window wide and sat down at his desk. A strong breeze through the window made his tie flap. He picked up a stapler and stapled the tie to his chest!

Dead Silence.

The rest of the year went smoothly.
