You can see some interesting photos of a guy who was going against everyones advice about getting too frendly with a grizzly. The grizzly ate him. And his girl friend. The bears (two) were spotted by helicopter, hunted down and shot. You can see these photos on line if you can get the Alaska fish and game web site. Happened a few years back.
The dumb victims didn't have time to decide whether the bears were "bluffing" or not. I will pay the premium on a nice insurance policy on you, if you will permit.

I am not addicted to the rule of thirds. If I do intend to use it, I get the image in the camera, whether I used "thirds", or not. Then I crop to whatever looks good to me, "thirds" or not. Don't miss the shot while wasting time trying to compose using "thirds" Always get the image, and then crop the way you want the final print to look

I have used Picasa for years. it's by far the best freeby you can find. It does almost anything a begginer can want.
