SurePost is a UPS option for their pickup, but USPS delivery. It is shipped to a local Post Office for normal mail delivery, saving the USP Residential and possible Rural delivery charges which can double what USPS will charge. The shipper saves on cost but the recipient is at the mercy of the Postal delivery whims.

That is not entirely correct. The postal service receives the item for the "last mile". In other words, if you order something to be delivered in Boston, MA from Topeka, KA, UPS controls it until it is dropped to the delivery unit in Boston that handles the last mile. So, you are not at the whim of USPS, you are the whim of UPS.

Well taken care of D6 with a shutter count of less than 35,000 clicks. I don’t want to ship so I’m looking for someone within a reasonable distance from Boston,MA. Looking for $4,000 firm. Switched to mirrorless, Z9. If there is serious interest I will provide pictures. Comes with everything as new.

I’m not sure where you’re getting your iPhones from but every time I update my iPhone they are not available for about a month after release date. Pre-orders are taken and about every hour of preorders creates a delay of about a week in shipping date. Perhaps you are somewhere where stores get a better allocation.

I could be missing something but I think your biggest slow down is that your photos are on an external drive. That's not uncommon, but you need a fast drive with a fast connection (usb-c or thunderbolt). There is a noticeable difference when using an external drive connected with usb as opposed to the same external drive connected with thunderbolt when editing and rendering images. Presently, I use a Lacie external drive connected to an iMac with Intel i7 and 32gig memory and 16gig video memory. There is absolutely no lag when making adjustments and rendering images in LR and Photoshop. The Topaz products work great with this setup as well.

Hello, nice shots. Which parking lot were you in for these shots? I visited in July and the sun rose opposite the river so any shots would be extremely backlit. I am contemplating going later this month, but I just wonder whether there is a vantage point that allows the sun to be behind the photographer. Thanks for your time.

The USPS has opened an investigation into the loss. It was shipped from Charlotte, NC to Mars Hill, NC.

My question is, how do these things get resolved when the item does not arrive for an extended period of time? I haven't been able to find any information on the inter-tubes.

I know I can contest the payment via Paypal or my credit card company. Is that my best option?

Wow, there certainly are plenty of postal service haters out there (I'm not implying the the op is one of them). Most, if not all seem to be ill-informed and are certainly using a broad brush. I would hope that an admin would monitor such baseless attacks on the postal service and realize that there are members of UHH that are postal employees and are offended by such attacks.

That being said, you do realize it is December? It is what is called peak season at the Post Office. You do also realize that there is still a pandemic going on and that effects manpower at the postal service? Here's what you may not realize.

FedEx and UPS are at capacity and they have chosen to "shut off" service to some retailers. The USPS does not have the luxury to tell customers that "we won't take your mail". Because FedEx and UPS are at capacity, they are not allowing the postal service to contract any space on their aircraft. For years, FedEx and UPS aircraft have been an integral part of the postal service's distribution system and without that space to transport parcels, the usps ability to move parcels is greatly hampered. Further, due to the pandemic, commercial air travel schedules have been greatly reduced. In case you weren't aware, the postal service also contracts with commercial airlines to move parcels with them on regular passenger flights. Fewer passenger flights = less capacity to transport cargo for the USPS. It's simple supply and demand.

Although I sympathize with the op I'm not quite sure exactly what "lost in the mail" means in this instance. It could quite possibly be on a tractor trailer, backed up and waiting for the manpower to get it moving again. The point being, with everyone doing online holiday shopping, now may not be the best time to make a purchase that could just as easily be made after the new year. Some ebay sellers realize this and have decided to "close shop" until the new year. Sometimes, we do have to rely on common sense.

Again, no disrespect meant to the op. However, to all the other "haters" that have posted, you may want to realize that the postal service moves more mail in one day than the other services move in a year. Don't take my word for it, check the facts. By shear numbers, the postal service is going to have more late deliveries, missed deliveries or otherwise unhappy customers. But hey, it's the holiday season, continue to pile on and criticize the postal service and it's employees. If that's how the haters have to compensate for their inadequacies, we have broad shoulders, we can take it.

Comcast is going to start charging more for "heavy users of home Internet" in the northeast. I'm sure they will think up an appropriate definition for "heavy."

1.2 TB is the breaking point. Anything over that incurs an additional fee of $10 per 50 gb with a $100 cap. I got rid of cable tv a couple years ago and stream with youtube tv to the tune of about 1.6 TB per month. I'm looking at an $80/month increase if I don't find an alternative.

The MacBook Pro is soon to be transformed into a mac-based machine instead of intel based. Don't buy anything until this change is complete and it has been in use for a bit so any bugs become known and corrected. There is an event November 10 that is likely introducing the new machines. Sit tight till then.

Hedgehog family, I'm in the market for a D4 just because I want one, not that I need one. I have a D500 and a D850 so this D4 would just be something to shoot with from time to time. I have spotted one on eBay with 133,500 shutter count that the seller says is in very good condition. He purchased the camera from National Camera Exchange so it's an American camera. The seller was asking $2400. or best offer so I offered $1500 and he quickly accepted the offer. Now I'm having second thoughts because he accepted the offer so quickly. I just need you guys and gals opinion. I think the camera is worth the offer I made if it's in the condition that he describes. Your thoughts please.

For what it's worth, I just traded in an extremely well cared-for D4S with 13,000 shutter clicks. I received $1325 for the trade and was satisfied knowing that I didn't have to sell online or ship. The local camera store advertised it for $1799. However, a week later, they offered 15% off all used gear. The camera was sold for $1529. That store sold that camera with warranty for essentially the same price that you are paying presumably without a warranty. A good rule of thumb is that camera stores (b&h, adorama, keh, etc.) will buy your equipment for roughly 70% of what they will sell it for. So, if buying from a private seller, plan to offer approximately 70% of what you are seeing it selling used for on one of those sites as that is all the seller will get.

The sigma 50-100mm 1.8 is my absolute favorite lens on the D500. I too use the 70-200 vrii but the sigma is even sharper. At least my copy anyway. The 50mm may be a little tight also but if not, you'll love the lens.

After becoming very comfortable with my D500, I recently decided to dip my toe into the FF world by picking up a pre-owned D810. For birding, i have the Nikon 200-500, the Nikon 300 PF (and 1.4 TC), and the Tamron 100-400, all of which I love. I’m wondering if and how to use two cameras for birding? If we are in a single location (not hiking), my instinct would be to mount the heavier combo (D810 and the 200-500) on my tripod and use the D500/300 PF for handholding for BIF opportunities. Or, is trying to use both more trouble than it’s worth? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I understand your thought process, however, if you use the lens/camera combination that you're referring to, you limit your focal length. Personally, I would put the 200-500 on the D500 to get the reach of a 750mm and then go with the 300 on the D810. You can always crop the D810 images. I usually throw my Sigma 150-600 Sport on my D500 and a 70-200 on my D5. Then, my range is effectively 70-900 between the two cameras. Just a thought. There really isn't a wrong way to do it. Play around and see what suits you best.
