I find that my Panasonic GX8 combined with the Leica 100-400 is ideal for daytime sports (I do mostly baseball) photography. Its burst rate is phenomenal and there is no blackout between bursts so it looks like a movie as you are shooting. The combo has dual stabilization and is pretty light to handhold throughout a game. But for night games, meh, doesn't do well in bad light.

I've never found a LR preset I liked and have deleted the many that I have purchased. They are always to someone else's taste tailoring the preset to their camera and lens. Purchased Photoshop actions are a different story since they can be much more easily tailored to what YOU like.

Thanks, Linda. I used the weather history site and that helped me decide on first week of September -- what a cool site! Thanks!

Ya'll have been so helpful. So now it's between mid to late May, end of August, or first week of September -- how's Labor Day weekend there; swarming with people too? We want to stay in a cottage away from Bar Harbor, on the shore. And explore and photograph the entire area -- do I endure bugs, rain, crowds, etc??

Hello! I plan on traveling to ANP at some point this upcoming summer to photograph the beauty there. Does anyone here have advice for me on WHEN to go? I cannot go in September at all. And October is too long to wait! What's the next best time? Don't want to get swarmed by bugs OR crowds. Thank you!

I bought a bunch then deleted them. I've found a better idea, if you have the Adobe package, is to purchase Photoshop actions. These are easy, and can be adjusted to apply just a little of the action overall, or just a portion of it to your image. I love mine. Don't use them a lot, but when I do I usually love the outcome after I adjust to my taste.

If you have Facebook, consider joining the Lightroom help group. They are extremely knowledgeable and will give you a fix quickly. The new version has some great things you will have to give up if you just go back to the old version.

I own this and was very happy even at 400 mm -- it was very sharp and I had no complaints. However, and this is a VERY big however, this lens is VERY delicate. This lens is not light and it is held on to your mirrorless (mine is a Lumix GX8) by a quite thin and small piece of the cheapest plastic ever, like kids' toy plastic, painted silver. I've read reports of the mount breaking inside the camera case with just a jiggle of the bag. In my case, my camera and lens were inside my bag, it was dropped, and the lens separated from the camera, the mount completely cracked in two places, and it scratched the sensor on the camera. Worse, regular camera shops cannot repair it. You have to send it in. I had a Square Trade warranty on it and it is now sent off to them. I am waiting to see what will happen. If you purchase this lens, please know that it is not your normal metal mount, more delicate than anything, and cannot be fixed. My understanding is that Panasonic no longer repairs this lens. I am just hoping they'll give me a refurbished that is as sharp as my original. Good luck to me! Now, on to my second point. Know that at 400 mm you are at 6.3 and in not great light you'll be most likely at ISO 1600 or 3200. You will be getting out noise for every image. To me, it was worth the extra time to do this. Just know you will have to. Overall, I found it's just not that great at low light performance when paired with the GX8. Can't tell you about pairing it with the Oly -- maybe it's different.

Yes, it was my dear spouse who knocked into it (but yeah, you can always be more careful.) Curious though, why not the Square Trade warranty? Thank you.

I know, I can't believe it. Well, I may move on to a different company.
